I'm sorry but who has the money to buy a $2.1K monitor. Ah well, to whoever buys this, enjoy the monitor!

    • +1

I bought one in the last deal last year. It is definitely worth it. Great for both gaming and WFH. Only issue is that there are no decent choices for monitor arms that support it.

    • In fairness, it's basically two monitors

    • +3

People who WFH. Besides it being far too big to be reasonable I think the price is fine, I've been thinking of a smaller OLED around this price. Yes it's pricey, but I spend 8+ hours a day in my office, compared to maybe an hour or two a day watching my $1500 TV.

$3.2k normally. It's definitely an expensive purchase for me, but I found my productivity jumped when I went from multiple screens to a 49in curved. The only downside was the 1440p vertical res, and the zone dimming causing bloom when watching content. Going to the 57in with Dual 4K gives me more real estate, more vertical res, and better dimming to reduce the bloom. I do wish it came in a cheaper 120Hz version, but otherwise I think it should be a worthwhile upgrade.

      • So tempting, I'm in the same boat too have had my 49" CHG90 Ultra-Wide Curved QLED for about 2+ years and not sure if it's really worth the upgrade just yet. I love these ultra-wide monitor not only does it dramatically increase productivity (in my opinion) as I normally will have 3 windows open, but also unrivaled for video editing as helps so much with viewing the time lines etc.

I went from the CRG9 to this monitor and it was absolutely worth it.

The vertical increase, whilst only a tiny bit was well worth it.

    • I suppose that depends on what you’re into, spending that kind of money would appeal more to people who are heavily into PC gaming so they have a higher interest in these product than your average person.

    • Along with the PC with the specs needed to run shit on this thing at full res and refresh rate.

    • If you fall into a high enough tax bracket, and intend to claim 100% business use, I could see this being a somewhat 'sensible' opportunity.

If you're going to indulge yourself in judging people who spend a bit more than you are willing / can, how about you go hang around mansion auctions and expose them to your backhanded drivel before you bother a bunch of nerds who just want a very good monitor?

  • 4090 does not support DP2.0, hence you can't have 240hz at 8k via HDMI. If higher fresh rate is what you after, think twice before you buy this. Overall a very good monitor for both work and gaming.

Thats the reason I got the Radeon 7900XTX. Thought ahead a couple of months ago, then bought this monitor 2 weeks ago for $2300. 240hz is great.

Can you buy me the moon, which I'm assuming you can also afford…

        • Sure mate, who owns the moon?
I could only afford it after saving since my last PC upgrade 7 years ago. Upgraded my GPU from a 1080ti which lasted longer than I thought it would, but it kept performing quite nicely.

          • @Ghost05: Sometimes people will use wild and fictional scenarios for comical effect. You should try it sometime. No shade though intended though, enjoy your PC and sexy 240hz monitor :).

    • Yeah, I ended up deciding though, what’s the likelihood of even the 4090 driving this beast at 240hz. Everything is a compromise and I’m more than happy with the 4090 + G95NC combo personally 👌

I've got the CRG9 49", trust me, it's not worth it for every day gaming. Most games don't support it and unless you get third party software to split the monitor into 3 screens, the most you're going to get it a saw neck from looking left and right continually.

And the heat. The heat these things give off is rather high, so you might want to get a fair for the back of it - if it's in an enclosed area.

    • +1

Definitely worth it for me. All the games I play support 7680x2160 without an issue. Also Microsft has the desktop snap software called Microsoft Powertoys for free from the Microsoft store to divide the screen up easily when moving windows, just hold Shift and drop the window into a predefined area.

      • It's great that the games you play, support ultra wide but most, do not: https://www.reddit.com/r/ultrawidemasterrace/comments/1bgf7a…

And if they do, they do so badly - I'm talking about a HUD that's split to each end of the screen, looking at you Valheim.

As for PowerToys, it's pretty crap compared to paid software with a lot of niche gotchas.

    • If they're giving off a lot of heat I figure their energy consumption is through the roof then as well?

      • It's not too bad but the CRG9 definitely gets hot.

With so much screen real estate and how bright it is, you need to moisturise your skin almost daily.

        • hahaha

    • Can confirm it puts out a bit of heat. Also get a few cracks and pops from thermal expansion. But boy is she a beaut to look at.

      • It freaks me the hell out when I hear the Pops or creaks of the plastic.

Does yours randomly turn off and on?

  • +1

Have they address their QC issues? I remember there were lots of duds when it came out.

  • I am guessing my little RX 6800 XT will not handle this for 240hz
but will the GPU be able to push 120hz

    THE GPU has 3 x DisplayPort™ 1.4 with DSC / 1 x HDMI™ 2.1 VRR

  • Sheet.. I wanna upgrade my 49" to this. Lol..

    Tempting..

  • It was briefly available for $1916 back in November, but sadly hasn’t dipped below that since.

    www.ozbargain.com.au/node/813218

  • Just a quick note, full DUHD resolution at 10 hit colour doesn't work on nVidia cards. Dp1.4 with DSC is limited to 8bit at 240Hz DUHD.

  • been waiting a long time for this, upgrading from a 49",

thinking of double stacked 57" in vertical mode

I currently do a 38" on top of a 49" and it is truly godtier

    • What are you using to hold the 38? I'm toying with mounting my 49 above the 57, but I don't know what would hold it.

      • good question, i would do the same actually 49 on top of the 57 in a slanted angle down POV - currently i mount the 38" acer on with the generic 'Dual Monitor Desk Stand' but only use the top VESA plate and not the bottom. the 49 is currently on it's OEM stand cause i have been lazy to buy mount Lol

  • How can you get education store prices on the samsung shop app?

  • I just ordered one, i had one of the first units and it had dead pixels and ended up never turning back on within a month. Got my refund and decided to wait for a good price and hopefully a revised model. Got it for $2005.00 10% with loyalty and 5% first app + reward points ($46) from buying it the first time.

It's worth the risk because there just isn't anything else like it on the market

  • I can't get EDU account but it seems like it's public price now at $2399 with additional $100 trade-up and 5% first app purchase.
