Nice but still a hassle you can't redeem more than 2000 in one go

    • +5

True, but considering there is no cardholder verification at all with regards to this redemption option, it means that someone who steals your physical Flybuys card or figures out your Flybuys card/account number can only redeem 2000 Flybuys points in a calendar day. Everyday Rewards illustrated what could happen when there is no limit on the number of points you can redeem in one transaction…

Also, I have switched off this redemption option, because:

      • You will not earn any points on the $10 discount portion.

      • I am not sure whether you will still qualify for bonus Flybuys points offers where you have to spend a certain amount. For example, if you scan $55 worth of items and then opt for the $10 discount, you only need to spend $45 out of your own pocket. If you had a spend $50 in one transaction, get 2,000 bonus Flybuys points offer on my Flybuys account, I am not sure whether your purchase still qualifies for that offer, because the terms of that offer says $50 or more must be spent in one transaction, after all savings, discounts and vouchers. It is not clear whether this redemption option is treated as a payment method or a discount.

      • I often get the spend $x per week offers and whenever I have used converted flybuys points (eg $50 worth of points), it's never affected it meeting the minimum spend.

        EG:
        Spend $100 a week

Total is $110 in store checkout; use $50 worth of flybuys points rewards, rest on credit card, always meets the minimum spend for me.

I am not sure whether you will still qualify for bonus Flybuys points offers where you have to spend a certain amount.

I've been stung in the past using Flybuys points which put me under the spend requirement and missed out as it's treated as a discount. Conversely I believe using Flybuys dollars is treated as a payment method and does count towards the spend.

        • I’ve tested this across two accounts in recent weeks and confirm exactly what you’ve written.

Instant $10 - don’t use if it pushes you under minimum spend
Flybuys Dollars (swipe card on EFTPOS machine) - all good, treated as a normal payment

    • What I do is as I am at the check out, redeem as $10 worth of flybuys dollars. When you scan flybuys card after that it will still prompt if you want $10 off, say yes, then use the flybuys dollars as well. But this puts your flybuys points in arrears. But can technically use more than $10 at once.

      • Done via the app, ie redeem 2000 pts, and then quickly via the register straight after?

        • Yep.
I once redeemed $40 in flybuys points before checking out at Coles, it gave me $10 off option and then went to a liquorland nearby to use the redeemed $40 and it unexpectedly prompted for $10 off again. Not sure if it happens all the time (might be a delay in reconciling the points redeemed so it still sees the points on your account at coles/etc for some reason?). Edited to show history for those redemptions.
Takes a bit to build your points back up again after though.

  • I completed spending $50 for 4 weeks to rarn 10,000 points in May. They did not give me the points, just realised 3 days ago then they gave me the points. Always check if they did after the promotions.

    • +1

It can take a few days for the points to go in. Nowadays I always screenshot when I’ve activated the 10,000 points and keep my receipts until I’ve got the points. Flybuys really is a bit slack at times.

      • I activated the 10k points last week and spent $50 the first time, I don't see the offer anymore

        • +1

The offer disappears but you should get an email telling you that you have completed the first week. It is why I do the screenshot to prove I activated it.

is this $10 on top of the $10 from 2000 points ? otherwise i dont see how this is a deal…

  • +8

    Not really a deal.

But at least a move from the Coles Luddites away from needing a physical card to redeem Flybuy dollarydoos - having redeemed the POINTS in their clunky app.

Hey Coles! Someone from last century called - they want their Leyland P76 back.

OP: The neg is for Coles, not for you personally!

    • +1

It's either use a card like a Luddite, or have your Woolies dollars stolen because someone was able to determine what your barcode number was and used up the $100 you'd been saving for Christmas

      • Fair enough. You'd think that there would have to be an easier method of verifying the legitimate use of whoevers dollarydoos through the app. But there will always be tension between simplicity and security. I, for one, have partly swung back to using cash where unholy surcharges are being applied by vendors.

  • Can i use all my point in one go? Or have they all expired I've scanned the coles card so many times over the past 15 years and i've never got anything back for doing so.

    • if you have a physical card & pin, you can go online convert points to dollars, then use the Flybuys card like a prepaid credit card.

e.g. if you have 20k FB points you can convert that to $100 and swipe your FB card like an old credit card at the EFTPOS terminal and pop in your PIN and use it to pay for stuff at Coles Liquorland, etc. But I believe it only works in-store.

  • this is a trap more than a deal i think

  • I thought we get additional $10 off I got the email couple of weeks back, I used 3 times but still can't see extra $30 anywhere in the app to redeem. Have they deceived us ?

    • +1

      not additional 10 off
      you need earn 2000points first
then they allow you to redeem when you check out
and I doubt when you redeem it, you must be careful if you have a 50 *4 for 10000 points offer.

      • I got below email each time I redeemed 2000 points, that is why I was thinking there would be additional $10 each time :/

bazingaa, Your Flybuys $10 Reward is on the way
Well done! You’ve been shopping smarter and collecting loads of points and now you’re reaping the rewards!

We hope you love your new reward and see you again soon!

        Thanks from the flybuys Team

        Points: 2,000

    Not a deal.

  • It's already been working this way for me for months.

  • +2

"Previously this option is only available for people who own a Coles mastercard or Coles insurance"

Not really, I am doing for ages.. not a deal…

  • does it affect my weekly deal for example , if I need to spend $50 for bonus points and use this $10 off thing? will it just count as 40?

  • They've been converting my 2k points automatically to $10 for a while after scanning flybuy barcode. Not sure if it's anything new. I wish they'd drop the barcode and do tap like edr though. Tragic scanners.

  • I've got 200k points. What is the best value use?

    • convert to Flybuys dollars and use to pay for shopping…easy

  • +1

Not a deal, more suited to the forum

  • This is NOT A DEAL, it's just advertising the long-standing Flybuys points redemption for members of their rewards program, very deliberately misleading.

    • I think that's why it's tagged as "Long Running".
