Accor - Payment Currency for Overseas Hotels Booking

Hi everyone,

I have a quick question regarding booking hotels overseas through the Accor website. I'm planning a trip and will be staying at various Accor properties in different countries.

If I book a hotel in a foreign country through the Accor site, will I be charged in the local currency of that country, or will the payment be processed in AUD?

I am asking because my preferred credit card would incur international transaction fees for transactions with foreign currency. So if that's the case I'll consider using my debit card that won't have such fees.

Any insights or experiences you can share would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Payments will all be charged in the local currency of each hotel. You can see the final payment amount after booking which will show it charged at the local currency but converted to AUD as a guide.

    • Thanks for the info, I tried to proceed with the payment and could see the message as well

You will pay in the local currency of the hotel. The price in $ is approximate and may vary according to the exchange rate upon the payment and potential bank fees.*

    • I think OP is actually asking whether the payment will be processed LOCALLY (ie: In AUD by Australian processor - no international fee) or internationally (ie: In AUD by processed overseas - yes international fee + DCC)

Example for hotels booked for overseas properties but processed locally - Hotel.Com (Safe to use Aussie credit card without International Fee)
Example for hotels booked for overseas properties but processed internationally - Agoda (NOT safe to use Aussie credit card without International Fee)

I don't know about Accor but the T&E suggests it will for overseas properties.

Usually if you pre-pay, you pay in AUD. If you pay at the front desk, you pay in the local currency.
