Kitchen Appliance Discounts - How Much Should I Haggle for?

Hi All,

I need to purchase a few kitchen appliances that I've picked out -
Westinghouse 5 burner gas cooktop in black - $1499 (Harvey Norman)
Westinghouse Oven - $1286 (E&S) $1499 (HN)
Miele 5000 series Dishwasher - $1484 ( Price after Nationwide 10% discount).

I wanted advice on whether its reasonable to expect a further, say 15-20%, discount on these items? What % should I target and are there any particular stores that ozbargainers have gotten lucky with in getting a great deal on their appliances? I live in Victoria, so for the most part my go to stores nearby are E&S, Harvey Norman and the Good Guys. ( any other stores I should go for?). Thanks

UPDATE

Just wanted to give an update, in case anyone came across this post and wondered what the outcome was.

I went to Harvey Norman, the Good Guys and E&S. The sales guy at HN brought the total from their list price of $4467 down to $4020 but no free delivery for the Westinghouse appliances. Had better luck and service from the Good Guys sales guy who brought it down to $3960 but again no delivery for the Westinghouse stock.

Finally, was able to get E&S to discount their listed total of $4169 down to $3889 and it includes delivery for all the appliances. Hit just under 14% for the Westinghouse app discount.

Thanks again to everyone who commented with helpful advice.

Not an appliance expert, but expecting $300 off a $1,500 purchase when only buying 2-3 units is wishful thinking.

Get a quote from https://www.appliancesonline.com.au whom tend to be the cheapest around in my experience to cross-check retail store prices.

      Thanks for the suggestions.

I don't expect to get a further discount on Miele. Was wanting to try my luck with the Westinghouse brands at least.

I've come across clearance stores that have the same items selling at $1,119 each for the Westinghouse brands. Apparently the only issue with those appliances is that their carton was damaged during shipping. Aside from that it's the exact same thing along with the manufacturer's original 2 year warranty. So I guess I wanted to see if anyone's had experience trying to haggle and beat the price at least.

  • LOL. Please.

Wishful thinking but just ask around what is the best they can offer for multiple items.

Check good guys commercial if you have access. Can’t remember the exact details now but I saved about $150 on our electric stove. Ymmv. Sometimes the commercial price is actually worse than the special prices on good guys website or competitors

    • I don't have access to TGG commercial. But, Thanks for the advice.

    • TGG sales guy was nice enough to offer a commercial pricing and it was pretty good. I've updated the details about that. Cheers again for the advice from yesterday.

It is not hard. Just say what is your best price? Theyll go look up on the computer and see how much theu can take off.

Ideally id you want to keep the price get them to write it on their business card.

Look up online what a good price is.

You wont get further discount on Miele as they dont set the price.

I agree about the Miele probably being the final price. Most of those high end brands tend to be the same even with Asko as well. But I'm going with Miele as they've got a 5 year manufacturer's warranty going on currently. Thanks for the advice.

      • I'm guessing the neg votes are trolls?

  • Before The Good Guys was acquired by JB their schtick was "pay less for cash". The cash price varied by item but I don't recall ever getting more than 3%, not that I was a big customer. So imagine OP you're an applicance retailer. Are you going to take 15% off list price just because a customer asks? Do you succeed with any other retail consumer purchases?

I've done it a few times with my two Samsung TVs with one of them going down by 25% . This was at Harvey Norman where I got them to beat the price on eBay at the time (in 2021, I think). I've had even better luck in getting great haggling discount deals on cars as well.

But, appliances have been the one so far that's been a tough nut to crack for a good discount. Anyway, I'll update if I do get lucky with this.

I bought (deposit paid today) $7296 of AEG appliances and got $896 off. For AEG I thought that was reasonable but other brands have more/less to play with.

You may get cheaper shopping around for individual pieces. I also bought a $1k Franke sink. HN could only get down to $796. I got it on ebay for $618 delivered.

    • Great job on the discounts with AEG! I've got their power tools as well a Heat Pump Dryer, but did not get lucky at all with discounts on either.

Did you get one of those Granite / quartz sinks? $618 is a brilliant price for that brand.

AEG had a "spend $5k and get 5% discount" and my project planner spends thousands with the same sales guy so he gives the biggest cut from their margin possible.

Sink is just brushed stainless Franke Bolero single tub 360mm. It's a small kitchen.
