[XB1, Preowned] Sunset Overdrive $2 + Delivery ($0 C&C) @ EB Games

180

Saw that there's tonnes of copies of this game for super cheap. In fact most of the Xbox games are incredibly cheap at the moment.

This is a fun game by insomniac. Little light on the story but a very enjoyable and fun gameplay loop.

One of the few rare good Xbox exclusives.

Such a shame we’ll never get a sequel note that Sony owns Insomniac Games

      Micro$oft could buy Sony 😂

Assuming Micro$oft owns the IP, it could have another studio release a sequel.

      • From memory Insomniac owns the IP but MS have indefinite publishing rights.

So it would only happen if Sony agreed to MS publishing one of their developer’s games. Not likely.

        • -1

Oh well, then only if Microsoft buys Sony 😂.

        • indefinite publishing rights to the IP or just the first game?

    • Why couldn't Sony produce the sequel?

This is such a sick game. very much like ratchet and clank in terms of gameplay.

    • There's a reason for that

  • Most underrated Xbox One game ever!

  • I went and bought this from EB. Low and behold there's a big scratch on the surface of the disk. So it totally fails to install as there's unrecoverable read errors about half way through the install. Fails a surface scan through my PC blu-ray writer too. I swear half the times i bought preowned games from EB the disc is so scratched that it's useless. Waste of $2.

So you've got to watch out as some of these preowned game discs can be a coaster. BD discs are extremely prone to being killed by a scratch on the read surface.

I give up and will never buy another preowned game from EB. Whoever sold the disc to EB totally scammed them and me.

I'm turning to digital download only now. No more worries about bad discs.

You could always return the disc and ask for a new one. With a digital download, you can’t share and resell games, and there’s even less chance of you being able to download and play the game when they inevitably shut down the service or remove it from being downloadable.

      • It would cost me more in bus transportation cost to get back to the store than i paid for it. I might just buy the digital download version some time when it's on sale. No screwy game disc that can get scratched and killed.

By the way. When it comes to Xbox, even with the physical disc. If there's been a game update (which there was with this game) you can't play the game until you download the game update. No update download means no playing the game at all. So the physical disc is also useless if they shut down the update download server. That's what a lot of people just don't understand. It's not like Playstation where you can play the physical disc game without running the game update. I think the last time you could play the physical game without running the game update is on the Xbox 360. Xbox One was and is much more locked down.

          • @PainToad: I still wouldn't trust the long term reliability of a BD game disc over time if it gets scratched. All it takes is one accidental bad scratch which reaches to the read layer part of the disc and damages that and the whole game is gone. On a BD disc the read layer is a lot closer to the surface than what a DVD disc was. They are a lot easier to be screwed up for good. It could happen today, tomorrow or any time.

I think i'll take my chances with some digital download versions.

        • It would cost me more in bus transportation cost to get back to the store than i paid for it.

Why wouldn’t you check the disc of a pre-owned game before you leave the store/centre? It’s a $2 10 year old game, the odds of it being in average/poor condition are pretty high.

Check before you leave the store?

Also since Xbox allows you to install from the online store, you can basically bypass the disc. I've used tonnes of completely (profanity) discs because of this. Did you try that?

      • -1

The irony is i checked at the store but i didn't pick up on the scratch due to the bright lights obscuring it. At the time it looked pretty good. But the way bright lights shine on the disc can hide it from view.

I have an Xbox One X console. You know the previous gen console. On the Xbox One X with an Xbox One disc you can't do an install the online store. It only can be installed from the disc itself. There's no other option. That probably only works (with certain Xbox One game discs) on the Xbox Series S|X consoles which automatically upgrades it to a Series X digital download version of the game and starts downloading that. Not so on the previous gen (Xbox One X) console. With an Xbox One X console you're screwed if the game disc is damaged.

        • Yeah you can dude, I have a One X too.

I'm not an xbox guy either, but I did this myself recently because i wanted to try out some xbox exclusives.

Go to the xbox app, search for the game, and download to your console. Done.

Then put the disc in after it's installed. Even with scratches it should work, even if it won't install from the disc.

          • @Odin: I'm at the Sunset Overdrive in the Xbox app and i'm given no option to download to a console. Only option is to "Play with game pass" or buy it. I notice that it's a game available to be downloaded through Game Pass. I don't have an active Game Pass subscription (which means no game is available to be downloaded direct from the store unless it's free). I think you're getting confused as it's allowing you to download it to the console without having the disc in the drive because you might have a Game Pass subscription which allows you to just immediately download any game available through Game Pass. If you don't have a Game Pass subscription then there is absolutely no way to download the game to the console unless you've paid for it.

So i'm afraid that these games which you say can be just downloaded to the console are Game Pass available games. Ordinarily you can't just go download those games to the console unless you have that subscription. Ordinary accounts can't do what you claim.

I guess i could have upgraded the account to Game Pass to be able to just digital download the game to the console. But it would cost more than the $2 i paid for the game disc. But thanks good tip in the future for more expensive games.

            • @hollykryten: I don't have game pass.

Are you sure you've linked your Xbox to the app?

I own zero digital games on Xbox, just 20 physical ones. here's a random one on my app store:

You should be able to download any game. It's a specific feature of Xbox.

I'm certain you'll be able to.

Ordinary accounts can't do what you claim.

              They can.

I've never given Xbox a cent. Never had live. Never had gamepass. Never bought a digital game.

              • @Odin: Yes. The Xbox One X console is linked to the account. No option to just download Sunset Overdrive to the console. Only option is given to pay for Game Pass to be able to download.

                • @hollykryten: I promise you I can download any game onto my Xbox one X.

                  I don't have game pass

Never paid for any digital game.

                  You're doing something wrong.

It's a feature of Xbox to be able to predownload any game.

                  • @Odin: Ahh silly me. I thought you meant the Xbox app for Windows. I was using the Xbox app on Windows 10 which didn't have that option. Instead of the Android version.

                    • @hollykryten: Lol dude. You made me think I was special.

Hopefully it works for you now

                      • @Odin: Yes thanks for the tip. I wonder why the download to console option was never given on the Xbox app for windows. And yet it's there on Android. Any way cheers. :)

        • The irony is i checked at the store but i didn't pick up on the scratch due to the bright lights obscuring it. At the time it looked pretty good. But the way bright lights shine on the disc can hide it from view.

So the scratch is so bad that the disc won’t even install, but you couldn’t see the scratch because the lighting in store was too bright? lol. You didn’t check it in store.
