Mazda 2024 CX3 G20 Touring - Advice

Hey all. haggling for a 2024 CX3 G20 touring in the Grey.

The dealer demo is $34,500 (2,000 km) with standard mats and boot tray. Mazda has a EOFY year sale which last for another 3 weeks.

Any advice on how much I should negotiate? How much would you pay?

Anyone out there that’s bought the same?

  • Any advice on how much I should negotiate?

As much as you think is possible.

    How much would you pay?

As much as i could afford if i were truely interested in the car.

As someone who just bought a Mazda 3 Pure, the mats are a standard item dealers throw in for free without asking.

The one factor playing in your favour is Mazda can deliver cars as fast as they're selling. I waited just two weeks for my new 3 before it was in my hands. A Toyota Corolla hybrid? 6 to 9 months. Yaris Cross Hybrid? 12 to 18 months. While Mazda dealers aren't desperate to shift stock (it's arriving as fast as they can sell it), your position to negotiate is far better than dealing with Toyota where the discount is $0.00 because thousands are already in the queue.

    • How much did you pay for the Mazda3?

      • $33k. It's the offered price at the moment and was good for the car, and compared to the competition.

        • Thanks. The Mrs has a Mazda 3 but it's 20 years old. Still goes well but will have to be replaced some day. :)

        • Far out, the price of an entry level hatchback is now above $30k. That hurts.

Low ball the shit of of them, mumble something about “you need to get rid of stock, not me…” and then give them your number and walk out saying “if you change your mind, call me…”

Have even tried talking to them? Pick a figure you are happy to pay for the vehicle. Give that to them. If they say no, go away and either come up with another number or pick a different car.

If they make a counter offer, consider it. Is it that far off? If it’s too much, just thank them for their time and go home and reconsider your price.

Give it a week or two and call them and ask… “how’s my offer going? Any more room to move?” If not, back burner it again.

The thing is, you have to put a price on it that you are happy with. It’s not some pissing competition to see who can get the lowest price, it’s how you value what the car can offer you. But in saying that, be prepared to walk away if you think they are over valuing the car.

People forget that they are the buyers and can walk. Car dealers need to sell cars. They can’t walk. They need the cash flow. You don’t need their car. If they waste your time, don’t waste your own and just move on.

Seconded. You need to walk into a dealership being OK with the fact that you may not be walking out with a new car on the way. That's how dealers snooker so many buyers, people are impatient, want to get it over and done with and get steamrolled.

    • I’ve given them a figure but he keeps telling me to give him a new figure. They don’t give me revised figures - I guess that’s part of the sale strategy.

I’m sticking to my guns and staying with the number I’m good with. And I don’t care if don’t buy from them.

Tell them $30k. You are essentially buying a car that is already a decade old, even though it has gone through the odd update or two.

  • From personal experience, I bought a new Subaru roughly a year ago. I had contacted a dealer about a car I saw on Carsales, and never got a response.

I engaged Motorscout, and I would highly recommend. I gave the broker details of the car I was after and within 24hrs I had 3 quotes. He called me the next day, I decided to go ahead and he patched me straight through to the dealer to confirm details.

Won't cost you anything to engage, and I can only guess that if you don't buy through them the broker doesn't get a commission. At least this will give you an idea of what price others can get, and you can take back to your dealer to try and negotiate a better price.

I know this might sound like an ad… but I'm just a very satisfied customer. :)

      Brokers are great.

    • dealers are doing themselves a disservice

Did you take it for a test drive? I was a passenger in one of these once and found it incredibly small inside. Never understood the appeal of this new generation of mini 'SUV' which is essentially a hatchback on stilts.

  • Shop around from other dealers

Apparently, best weeks to shop for a car is 2nd last and last week before the end of them month as dealers need their quotas and KPIs met.

I'll keep shopping around until 2nd last week.

  • Most important thing is that YOU are happy with the price. Doesnt matter what anyone else pays. Offer them bit less than what youre haply with to give negotiation room.
