Caravan Parks on The Sunshine Coast Suggestions

Hi all, we're planning on spending 5 nights on the Sunshine Coast in early July in our Lark and cant quite decide which location to go for - wondering if anyone has experience with any of the below? We havent been to the area before so dont quite know the best 'spot' to use as your base when exploring….

We have 3 kids under 12 so are looking for a park that has plenty to keep the kids busy (and is clean and modern), but also a good location to see the main Sunshine Coast sites (Australia Zoo being the only thing we have locked in at the stage - feel free to offer up any must see/do places also!). Thanks in advance!

  • Big 4 Caloundra
  • Ingenia Noosa or Noosa North
  • Cotton Tree Holiday Park, Maroochydore
  • Ingenia Holidays Rivershore, Diddillibah
  • Big 4 Maroochydore

As a Sunshine Coast local - I would say the Cotton Tree Holiday park is probably the best of those - it's right next to plenty of cafes and restaurants, and the location is right on the river, but not the rubbish part of the river - the nice part :-)

    • Thanks! What's considered the 'rubbish' part? Is the rivershore one ok - it's further along the river so not 'beachy' at all but has better facilities (especially for the kids).

      • There's a really ugly part of the river that sticks out, you won't miss it. You won't be near it, it's all good.

I would consider Diddilibah the rubbish part - more mangrovey and mosquitoey.

    • Was going to say the same thing! Fantastic spot

        Boo who?

  • We camped at Ingenia Noosa in January 23 and we liked it. Nice pool, games room for the kids and movie nights on the big screen outside. All facilities were pretty clean too.

    • Thanks - some people seem to not really like Noosa (and the reviews for the caravan parks are a little mixed) so we aren't sure if we would be better staying in Maroochydore or somewhere sputh instead.

      • Honestly, Noosa overall I wasn't too keen on, I much preferred the Gold Coast or Byron which is two other places I went to on that trip. But Ingenia Noosa was the best campsite we stayed at.

  • Understood you have young kids that will appreciate activities and may want to be closer to the "action." But another angle - we did a few HipCamps in the area a couple years ago in some great rural /bush spots. It's usually a little drive to most towns (maybe good if you are visiting multiple places, esp. the hinterland) but retiring the night quietly under the stars is something else.

    • Any suggestions to look at?

      • I can't remember specific camp names but a quick look at this shows all sorts of possibilities.

    • Wow, so is this like air bnb but for informal camp sites?

      • Sorta. Spots on private properties, ranging from bush with no facilities and requiring 4WD access, to maintained sites that are designed specifically for campers. I generally like NPs but this contains lots of sites accommodating only a single party so can be great to get away from the crowd, and often has sites that are well manicured and have a more bougie feel. Had some magic stays over the years. At one of the ones we did last time on the Sunshine Coast we couldn't use the allocated area as it was a bit damaged by rains and we couldn't find a good level spot for the caravan so they let us set up in the middle of a disused paddock between bushy hills - campfires at night, no-one around, whisper quiet - it was glorious.

    • If these are the free camp sites, the ones I know near Noosa were closed during COVID, and haven't been reopened

  • I live in Noosa. It's a beautiful place, and worth a visit. Kids can do fishing, surfing, kayaking, mountain biking, great park walks, etc. A friend recommended the Ingenia on Cooroy-Noosa Rd a couple of years ago. Maroochydore and Caloundra have bigger retail precincts, and a more urban vibe. Australia Zoo is very good for all ages. You can travel the sunny coast north-south in about an hour. Hinterland is worth exploring, numerous waterfalls, walks, etc
