First Bub on the way, been looking at how we can take him on hikes and stuff. Been looking as Osprey, Kathmandu and even Thule.

Stumbled on this today, not a bad price considering 50% off.
Note: you do have to buy the element set if you want sun shade and rain cover, also 50% off. Totaling $275 for the whole set. Now as I type this unsure it’s a killer deal but still alright, anyway..

Thought I’d share in case anyone was in the same boat

Congratulations! We were lucky that we were gifted a hand-me-down from a cousin whose kids were already too big. Here's an upvote for sharing what you found. It seems though this Karinjo set was $140 on special 12 years ago, but it hopefully is a better model now!

I’d personally go Osprey over Kathmandu, but you will pay more. Or, you could look on FB marketplace

Btw, you really don’t need a structured hiking carrier until your kid is at least 12-18 months old. We did three months of backpacking through the Egypt, Middle East, Dolomites, and Greece with an Ergobaby Omni 360. Packable and lightweight. Even after 18 months, you can use them as a back carrier. Food for thought

    • couldnt you use one of those wrap around things for like 6 months?

      • Yes, but they aren’t as easy to put on/off as an Ergobaby (or similar), nor are they as ergonomical / healthy for hip development based on my research. The slings don’t last long either - only really for 0-12 months, whereas an Ergobaby or similar can last until 2.5-3 years old

  • Just get a second hand one, there's plenty of good condition ones available second hand from ambitious new parents who planned on going on lots of hikes with their baby but was overwhelmed with parenthood.

That being said, there's only a limited timeframe you can use these anyway, from the age they can hold their head up to when they start getting too heavy to carry!

    • Solid advice. First time parents have very skewed expectations as to what they can achieve with a new born. Get an Ergobaby carrier off marketplace and you won't look back.

"not a bad price considering 50% off" Thats Kathmandus business model. It's like the bed store of the outdoor world. The prices are bs and made to think you're getting a discount.

Rule 1 for baby stuff for new parents.. always get second hand over new if in good condition because you will be paying out the nose for things you will barley use.

    Also..

Your Karinjo Child Carrier is designed to safely and comfortably carry a child who must not be less than 6 months old and is over 65 cm tall and can hold their head up independently and is not more than 105 cm tall or heavier than 18 kg.
