eBay Returns Random Tracking Number

I have initiated a return on ebay due to defective item on arrival. Seller hasn't been responding, but finally received notice to print postage label last night. Woke up today to find that I have apparently already shipped the item, and I can track the item.

This mysterious item is supposedly in another state, and is being delivered back to me as Aust post wasn't able to deliver to seller(according to tracking).

I haven't had the chance to save and print the postage label.

I'm so confused. Wtf? Is my return claim screwed?

  • Did you request a return label through Amazon or the seller directly?

If through the seller, they may have created a label with a fake address or a genuine mistake?

i would contact Amazon directly…..and quickly.

      Amazon or eBay?

      • oops

  • Check the postage return label, what do you see? Is it the seller addresss in their or your address? Check tracking the same as one in return? What's online tracking says?

    • I haven't even had the chance to download and see the postage label, was going to do it today.

Here's a screenshot of the tracking on ebay

      • ok, was the tracking number used in return the same with one that the seller used to ship to you originally?

        • Different number and courier company. Item was sent from Sydney originally. No idea where Vic came from.

Surely sellers can't enter return tracking info stuff on behalf of buyers right.

          • @Ughhh: I personally can't think how this seller works out his return - most likely is one of the way to not cost him any money on return.

Contact eBay to help on return - they should be able to help provide return shipping - hopefully on the cost of seller.

Sounds suss - I'd jump on to chat with ebay support to let them know you have concerns. They should look after you from there (at least my experience has been generally positive). If you have ebay Plus you also have the money back guarantee. Good luck.

  • It's an ebay tracking bug - I just had this. If you put the provided tracking number into Auspost, you'll see that the item hasn't actually been picked up.
