Not going to claim this is the greatest deal ever, but I was in the market for a French oven and this seems to be the best out there in terms of price to quality. OzB search results are pretty thin on the matter, so opinions welcome.

Available in white, teal and green.

    • maybe it's just me, but i was drinking water when seeing this now my screen is wet XD

    • Only 4L capacity. Cheap, for sure though.
Also, reviews on the Crofton Dutch Oven are…..not good. https://www.amazon.com/Crofton-Professional-Enameled-Liter-A…

    • I’ve tried an Aldi one before the ceramic on these aren’t great and suffer from thermal shock more than more expensive brands

I got mine 5 years ago from House for $112.
I use it regularly to bake sourdough bread.
I hammer it with very high heat (approx 260) and it is still like new. No issues whatsoever.
We have also used it for casseroles etc.

Not long ago there was an expensive alternative posted here and I suggested this one, based on personal experience and I was literally strung up for suggesting it. I guess if you pay hundreds more for a different product, you get a bit defensive ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    • Perfect, thanks for the first hand feedback. And yeah, short of spending $400-$600, my research indicated this was the next best option. Hence I thought I’d share it!

I got this same one off FB marketplace in brand new nick, for $40 (absolute steal) and bake about 6 loaves of sourdough a week in it. Still looks like the day I bought it. These are an excellent french oven.

      • God damn, 6 a week?! Are you feeding your starter twice a day, every day? lol

      • We have a Le Creuset which was given to us as a wedding present and I’ve used it a few times to make bread - works well! Sounds like you are serious with it and feed a few people!

I’ve followed Brian Lagerstrom’s way and done some decent bread.

  • I got mine from woolies (generic brand) for $30. Genuine question, is there any benefit to these more expensive ones?

    • Yes, less likely to bin it when you inevitably burn on some food and completely stuff the enamel :D

I had an Aldi dutch oven that got stuffed up after burning food onto the bottom. Also faded badly after many uses and dishwasher cycles later. Replaced it with a cheap Kogan one which hasn't faded but I again burnt something on and stuffed the enamel. My extra large Le Cruset is probably around 20yrs old and still looks like new
