Recommendation for a Good Wi-Fi Smart Switch

Hi Folks,
Any recommendations for a Good Wifi Smart Switch?

  • I need 2 gang, 4 gang, 5 gang and 6 gang Wi-Fi smart switches.
  • I don't want to go for a Wi-Fi hub, current budget for this is <500 $ including installation.
  • Have a 2 storied house. Changing one gang would not look symmetrical, so want to change all gangs in G floor and leave manual switches in upper floor (smart not required)
  • Some of my switches are 2 way switches and I want them to work 2 way for manual over ride. Will smart switch do this ?
  • DETA in bunnings looks expensive. Any other good and reliable brands which also have a good app please ?

Looking for recommendations from Oz Bargainers who have used them in their houses or have good knowledge of these. Pleas share your thoughts

    I need 2 gang, 4 gang, 5 gang and 6 gang

Too many gangs will cause problems.

    • What problems are you reffering to ?. I have a dual band TP link deco mesh with 2.4GH and 5 GH bands

Look for anything Tuya based like Arlec, Mirabello, TP Link. I got a mixed but are all Tuya based and it makes it nice and easy with 1 app.

Just remember that Smart Switches often require 2.4ghz WiFi, so make sure you have good WiFi coverage. I have a dedicated 2.4ghz network because "band steering" or "smart switching" WiFi routers/access points often have issues (in my experience anyway).

Exactly this - I've got 50+ tuya family WiFi products and have never had an issue with any of them.
Buy a cheap 2.4ghz 802.11n WiFi access point just for your IOT stuff and you'll be good to go!

Also if you think $50 for an Australian certified smart switch is pricey for the Deta ones at Bunnings you'll be looking around for a while lol

And $500 for supply and install…

      • Happy to go with Deta but I primarily need a 6 gang switch and they max have 4 gangs. Any suggestions ?

          I don't think I've seen any 6 gang smart solutions. Just put in 2 x 4 gang.

          • @geekcohen: I finally zeroed in on Mercator ! They come in all gangs (up to 6 gangs). Thanks

  • How are these - https://www.ozsmartthings.com.au/products/shelly-plus-2pm compared to the Deta smart switches. I know both have different mechanism but serve the same purpose.

Few considerations for both that I can think of are -

    Shelly smart relay -

    1. They sit inside the wall cavity in a low ventilated space. So chances of these igniting a fire and insurance not covering claim. How practical is this threat ? This is my primary concern with these smart relays.
    2. Signal would be weak as they are covered behind the gang

    Deta Smart Switch

For the Deta Smart switch the only cons I can think of are
    1. Availabilty of 5 gang and 6 gang switches
    2. If I only change one gang in a floor, other switch gangs would be of manual switches and might not be aesthetically pleasing

This is Arlec's "premium" offering. Works great, easy to use, never had an issue with.

Your biggest issue will be your budget. You will need to think this again as the electrician alone will gobble most of this up.
