was holding out for this to drop to sub-$400 but this might be the time to just buy it. thanks

    Mustn't… spend…

  • +2

Already have one, bought at $1100 during Covid :(
Greate one to multitask, but not ideal for personal usage.

  • I'm holding out for a 5800x3d price reduction. Even struggling to find that CPU second hand.

    • +1

The 5700X3D is a lot cheaper, and often goes on sale on AliExpress

  • How low can it go!

  • I’ll seriously consider replacing my 5900X if the price drops below 300, which is probably not unthinkable at this rate.

    • Are there much benefits of the 5950x over the 5900x? I'm considering the same

      • +1

I feel like it has less core so less power consumption, maybe higher auto-boost? I also read that 5950 is a better binned chip.

Practically I find current computer is very powerful, like you can get by with just a 5600 chip and do fine in almost every daily interaction. Expensive CPU is only needed for work.

        • Thanks! You knocked some sense into me that I don't really need it

        • Unless you're maxing out the 5900X (I have a system and almost never max it out) I can't see how the 5950X helps.

      • +3

The 5900 is 12 cores 24 threads, whereas the 5950 is 16 cores 32 threads.
The extra cores are good if you compile stuff like gcc or ffmpeg & set your MAKEFLAGS to ustilize most of those cores. ie. MAKEFLAGS = j24, it will be nice and snappy.
less relevant for gaming, on AM4 platform you're probably better off with a 5800x3d which has the extra 64MB processor cache if gaming is your aim

Another member of the 5900X club, its tempting but then I think why? This thing does everything I need and 4 more cores would only help in all core rendering, but with Tdarr on Linux and a couple driver patches I can unlock the power of this fully operational dea… I mean my 3080Ti for re-encoding. This has definitely been the best CPU purchase I've ever made for a PC, I upgraded from a 5820K.

  • Tempted to replace the 3900X in my server with this. Then again it might be even cheaper in a few weeks.

    • Already did few weeks ago, tanked $120 since I bought 🤣💸💸

    • Computex is next Tuesday, not sure how much more they're going to run out stock after this.

5700X3D is also going very cheaply on the regular if you're more gaming focused (subject to which games).

  • Faaaaaark… Can it go lower???

  • best price ever?

  • Down to the last 2 in stock at this price

    • Still 10 available right now. They add more now and then it seems.

Important messages for items in your Cart:
We're sorry. You've requested more of AMD Ryzen 9 5950X,16-Core/32 Threads, Max Freq 4.9GHz,72MB Cache Socket AM4 105W, Without Cooler than the 10 available from the seller you've selected.

      • How do you know stock levels?

        • Add 1 to cart, go to cart, change quantity to 10+, write '999', system will tell you that the seller only has X available.

  • I've had the 5950X since December 2020 and find it awesome: I'm surprised it's still a relevant CPU 3.5 years later…

    • +2

end of the line upgrade for those on the am4 motherboards.
would upgrade to this if i didnt get a 5700x3d

    Bought.
I can't believe that hesitating last night actually paid off, usually it's the other way around.

  • I've got a 5950X and a 5600g, for daily driving I really don't notice much difference between the two. Even 3D CAD is pretty good on the 5600G. The 5950X is a beast when you need to crunch some hard numbers though.

  • Overkill on a B450 board?

    • Your board doesn't affect performance much at all. When the bios for B350 and X370 boards that supported 5000 series cpus came out, some people benchmarked them on B350/X370 and found only a tiny percentage drop in performance due to no PBO.

  • Sorry stupid question, anyone know if I bought mainboard from Amazon Germany it will work in Australia?

    • +1

      it will be fine

  • -3

Why would you go this over a cheaper and faster (12%) 7700x?

    • +1

This has 2x the cores? The 7700X is faster in single core, sure, but slower in multicore, and more expensive overall with DDR5 requirements and pricy motherboards. Most people aren't buying AM4 for a new system, it's an upgrade to their existing AM4 system.

    • i have a truenas scale server with a 3900x in it, as 5950x is essentially the flagship of the am4 socket, its at the price where i will upgrade.

Also, from experience, it will be harder getting these CPU's for a decent price even on the second hand market as the 9000 series is coming out soon, the stocks will be disappearing.

  • Price went up to almost 650/-
