As per the title?
Can anyone confirm if they handle consumer data differently to 2022?
Some compelling deals but I don’t trust them completely… hmm

Ye they had my old passport and drivers liscence from 7 years prior when the hack happened
Maybe not worth giving them my new details for a free Apple Watch
It's worth considering, as for me, between the Optus and Medibank hack, my personal details are probably now public knowledge anyway. Might as well get a free Apple Watch. :P
Legally they have to retain your information for at least 2 years.
In healthcare it can range from 7 years to 25 years depending on the type of information. A bit of a worry when a practice closes and someone's handed a USB full of decrypted health information.
Yes, that's true. They need to retain my information for at least 2 years as part of their obligation under the Telecommunications Act 1979. However, the information that they "need" to retain is only related to my mobile service. Keeping my information on other non-telecoms related services under this obligation is a bit of a stretch, IMHO.
Optus is also required to encrypt their retained customer data though, we all know that didn't happen. But hey, security is by obscurity for some people, ie. no one will ever find this undocumented unsecured API. :)
Tell me company/government agency that hard delete your data by default?
Touche. :)
It's also interesting to note that the Equifax identity watch Optus provided to all customers affected by the data breach expired last month and was not renewed by Optus. Looks like they consider this event in the past and fully resolved?
Has anything changed? Optus are now jacking up their prices by 5-13%

Someone has to pay for the cybersecurity. It’s not your service provider. It’s the customer.
Where do you think the service provider gets their money from?
Not from the lord
Optus? Security? Pick one…
Too much to hope they at least encrypt the data now? Or don’t save the numbers once verified
Plain text of your ID saved for eternity was pretty bad
Optus is the safest of all telcos. It's like double jeopardy: your info is already out there, they can't leak it for the first time twice.
But they have my OLD info
Now I’ve moved states, bought a house etc etc
I hope you don't have Ticketmaster account :)
😂😂. You are joking right?
They have a new marketing team!
I doubt it. I re-joined Optus recently and I can see my Optus Subhub history from 2021 and 2022 from before I left. Looks like they like to hang on to your data. Needless to say, I left again soon after.
