Hi all,
This is my first post. Please be nice.
I was going buy a M2 Macbook Air for my daughter for school after seeing JB Hi-Fi had it for 10% off. I showed up to Officework on Sunday morning only to find that the deal finished overnight. Officeworks has also put their price back to $1499. Luckily, Retrovision still had it for $1439. I thought the price would be correct over the day, but looks like it is still valid.
Make sure check Retrovision price before you ask for price beat, as it could go back to RRP any time. Thanks
Apple MacBook Air 13" M2 256GB (Midnight) $1439 + Delivery ($0 WA C&C/ In-Store) @ Retravision (Price Beat $1375 @ Officeworks)

@shabaka: Mate, I'm the same. Was an Apple hater, hated the iPhones, then they made one that I liked the look of and was the perfect size (OG iPhone SE from 2016), and have never looked back. It all just … works together.
I was on a Facetime with my old man yesterday and I'm thinking there is just no way anything else comes close to the clarity of Facetime.
Why though?
I’m using a couple of Macbooks (Pro and Air) w/ 8G from 12 years ago and 7 years ago and they both still work perfectly fine.
And the M1/M2/M3 Macbooks claim to be much more efficient in their memory usage so.. 🤷🏾
this chosen Macbook Air will suffer with only 8GB, thrashing the 256GB SSD for virtual memory - and that 256GB SSD is half the speed of a 512GB SSD, which has two 256GB chips working in parallel. 16GB memory frees up the SSD.Note also that the display also comes out of main memory - more important if you also plug in external screens.
16GB/512GB is far more futureproof. But the way everyone is building AI assistants into every app and browser, the more memory, the better.
Apple overcharges for flash and for memory, but their cheapest laptop is always a step too low on both.
10% off macs happens so often.

$1380 via apple on campus
Pay with 10-15% apple gift cards
as long as you are a uni student, and most sites that do 10% off macs especially the minis never seem to have the 16gb version in stock
They dont check AOC or EDU
really? but i am guessing you can not buy on line though not be a student.
@billybob2015: I don't think I have ever bought a product from apple direct that wasn't through the education store. Buy online, set for click and collect, walk in and grab it. If you wanna be extra careful elect a freind to collect it "sorry my friend is a uni student but couldn't make it here to pick up" there you go. But really you're talking about base apple employees, there really isn't much incentive to actually check this sort of stuff.
any offer with IPAD pro M4 ?
Pay with 10-15% apple gift cards
Thanks. Any bargain of apple gift card

The last one was literally weeks ago at Coles 20x flybuys (12/5)
dunno if this price beat is going to work in qld, nsw or vic as it doesn't look like retravision has a presence on the east cost.
I am in Melbourne, Officework staff included the postage then 10% off.
Always worth a try though. I have had JBHIFI price match some really oddball stores including a store in WA that only had one physical store.
holy crap retrovision still is around??
It can only been seen when wearing your retro vision.
Le spec joke, pardon my french
Did u call , son @kungfuman
I know, I didn't know they are still around.
it was pretty funny the young lady behind the counter said "I've never heard of them" I had to explain that they used to have lots of stores.Didn't you know, it's the biggest retailer of electrical appliances, not the retailer of the biggest electrical appliances!!!!
Yeah, I thought the same. I wondered if they are owned by the same group as Betta but I can't verify it. Anyway, we should support them as a competitor against Harvey! Keep them alive.
We are not owned by the same group as Betta, we are however part of the same buying group (Narta) - Malcolm
Thanks Malcolm.
I grew up in a small country town in the 90s and it had a Retravision. It was my favourite shop. Since then I’ve known them for great customer service. Not with the highly incentivised sales people you get at HN who hardly know what they’re talking about.
Retravision sure is, we have stores in WA, NT and SA with delivery warehouses also in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. - Malcolm
$300 more get the m3 for $1610 at OFW
FWIW I have a macbook air M1 with 8GB ram and I never find it 'grinding to a halt'. I'm not the sort of person who has 20 browser tabs open at the same time but I'll easily have signal, whatsapp, messenger, multiple browers, multiple tabs, excel, all open. No issues.
Home use, it is fine. It is not the same for work though. With work, the data I need to work with is easily 100x more than what I use personally. For example, for Excel, for personal use, you don't normally have thousands of rows with 5-6 pivot tables and 2-3 pivot charts opening and need to get data from multiple places.
A mini PC can also do the things you mentioned and only costed less than $300 (can even get 16GB RAM at that price). Majority of those apps you mentioned depend more on your home NBN speed (other than Excel).
For an extra $150 you can get an ex-display Macbook Pro 16” from OW Frankston.
FYI: 256gb ssd is half speed
Is that the same for the 512gb version?
512g is full
We can argue the 8vs16 till the cows come home.
The point is, Apple have priced such way for their entry model to a specific demographic that are on the fence between a Window, or a Mac and this market is huge.
If you needed the extra RAM, there is an option for it.Much like an EV, you have longer range, etc just as part of the option.
-have a nice day-
If you needed the extra RAM, there is an option for it.
And it costs north of $2000, which is a joke.
These days you can get a Windows laptop with 16GB ram and an OLED panel for less than $1000.But then you'd have to use windows.
I switched to MacBook with the first M1 airs, because of the value they presented, went with the most basic 7 core 8gb model. I have no issues with anything people are complaining about in here despite leaving programs open for weeks on end, multiple Firefox windows going full of tabs for days. Navigating a Mac is infinitely better than windows bloody explorer
Navigating a Mac is infinitely better than windows bloody explorer
nah
@CrispyChrispy: Windows explorer, select detailed view, go into the next folder and it's back to icons again even though it's a nest of folders and isn't switching media types. Need I say more
@CrispyChrispy: I'd agree with you but Windows has gotten so much worse now, most control panel menus I'm used to are gone and they've simplified it which makes it so much harder to navigate/use
which is a joke.
You know that 'xyz is a joke' is not an argument?
These days you can get a Windows laptop with 16GB ram and an OLED panel for less than $1000.
Cool, So you get that, and other people will get what they want and everyone is happy. Why does it upset you that different people like different things?
Even though you're not initimate with the workings of Ozbargain topics and deals it's heartwarming to see you're still giving that 5B [sic] of RAM and well-oiled i386 of yours an occasional workout.
Cool, So you get that, and other people will get what they want and everyone is happy. Why does it upset you that different people like different things?
Because it's just not fair that people buy Apple devices and are perfectly happy with their devices !!
And it costs north of $2000, which is a joke.
There's this radical idea that I've been hearing about - you just mind your own business and don't buy the device.
$1439 for a computer with 8GB ram is terrible value and not a deal.
I agree with that rule of thumb, I wouldn't pay half of that for a brand new 8GB Windows machine, but these are alright, no matter how counter-intuitive and/or frustrating it may feel…
Why are so many people voting it positive when it's easily accessible for cheaper every day of the week
Hi all,

8GB RAM - 🤢
256GB SSD at half speed - 🤮Paired with the M2 it's like a 55 gallon drum barrel with the neck of a tiny 50ml spirits bottle from the hotel mini-bar.
A $1400 web browsing machine.
A $1400 web browsing machine.
What do you think 99% of macbooks are used for? While i dont think this would have enough specs for what a professional would need for work etc, for the majority of people who just want a nice laptop to browse facebook, do their banking, watch netflix etc - i dont think its toooo unreasonable.
Their pro line pricing is much worse IMHO, but somehow every kid at uni needs one to take notes.
If you need a simple machine that doesn't do much, why the hell would you spend $1400 on a macbook when you can buy a Chromebook for $300 and have it do everything you need?
Just admit that you're paying Apple a premium for the vanity appeal.
I don't think it has to be "vanity appeal".
There's no comparison in quality between any chromebook and its OS and these macbooks.
Sure, any 5-7yo macbook is still going to be better than any new chromebook (and similar in price), but still, so much heat over people choosing to have nice things.
@pizzaguy: What do you need "quality" for, champ? If all you're doing is browsing the web and checking emails (aka, what 99% of macbooks are apparently used for) then a chromebook is literally all you need.
I noticed you deleted your post suggesting I didn't know the power of the M-processor or whatever. Did it suddenly hit you that web browsing and checking emails cannot leverage any such power? Lol.
Have you even used a Chromebook? They function perfectly fine for browsing the web and checking emails. There is no real advantage the lowest-end macbooks provide outside of vanity appeal. It is absolutely foolish to pay more than quadruple the price for such a barebones use-case.@jasonxc: Nah, I deleted it, because it was irrelevant - my bad.
But even after deleting, you reply to it and cling to your fierce campaign of eduating people what their needs are.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I mean i dont even have a mac now but i used too for work so dont go calling me a shill for apple. But you cannot compare the build quality of a chromebook against a mac. Theres a reason theres hundreds of thousands of chromeboks from schools being turfed - they just dont last. Meanwhile we had macbooks out in the field that were 7 years old functioning just fine - hell we had to pry it from our CEOs hands to give him a new one.
@nothommus: Speak for yourself. I owned a Macbook a decade ago which carked it after about 4 years. My younger brother's macbook developed a black vertical line running down the middle of the display, which stayed for 3-4 years before the display failed altogether. My mum's macbook's touchpad failed. All laptops are prone to failure, especially if misused. A chromebook is more than capable of lasting a long time, and objectively makes far more sense to purchase if you're just "browsing the web and checking emails".
In reality, contrary to what you're trying to suggest, Macbooks are marketed for productivity and professional work. This is precisely why people take issue with charging $1400 for a laptop with 8GB ram and a crappy SSD. These are not fit for production, and would be rejected by any studio.
@nothommus: The first Macbook Pro I received from work has a screen defect. There is a cluster of pixels which are brighter. It wasn't enough to get a replacement. A colleague accidentally scratched a small portion of the screen, Apple Care only offers discount on the screen replacement. Another one has a faulty Thunderbolt 4 port after a year (honestly, USB-C/Thunderbolt ports can be fragile) but it is not easy to get a replacement and too much hassle. My old work Macbook Pros attract ants for some reason (I was given a second hand Macbook Pros, not sure what the previous person did).
You can have a look at second hand Macbooks online. Some of them, the conditions are bad. Then, there is the infamous butterfly keyboards.
Retravision also gives extra 5% if you are RAC member!!!
If only Apple designed their computers that let users upgrade their ram and SSD HD at a later time on their own.
Can't upgrade the RAM and max RAM is only 192GB.
I stand corrected.
No amoled is a joke for that money
I ctrl+f "joke" and I see this deal must provide lots of entertainment to people.

@ThithLord: how the tables have turned m8! would never have imagined. but all in all it turned out to be the cheapest option that ticked all the boxes. solid build, colour accurate miniled screen, solid battery life, and minimal maintenance, high performance on battery power. MacOS is dumb, but I tolerate it
got it on apple refurbished store for $2500
