Had to negate the negative vote. Cmon, Fergy1987’s comment was kind of funny

Tuck… If you had… one fitted sheet… or one opportunity…
To snuggle everything you ever wanted… one slumber…
Would you wrap it tight? Or just let it unravel?
      Zzz.

Stay away from Polyester. Used it, hate it. Cotton is best IMO.

    • Which cotton bedsheet set do you recommend ?

      • +3

I’ve looked into bedsheets a lot and had good experiences with Sheet Society, both their linen and cotton range. There’s often sales (if you don’t mind colour) and extra 10% off for various events.

I would recommend organic cotton sheets from Bhumi. It's expensive but they have upto 60% discounts on and off.

      • +2

Can always go cheap with muji. Not bad quality. No need to pay a 500% mark-up on sheet society which aren't even made in aus.

      • Absolutely agree about avoiding polyester. Doesn't breathe well at all.

For bang for your buck, I think the Target 1000TC 100% cotton sheet set is pretty good - $130 for a queen size set. I'd describe them as hotel style (if that's a thing) in that they're a little bit thicker than other 100% cotton sheets I've used, but still nice and soft - still fine in summer though.

Tencel, lyocell, and modal are also excellent materials for bedsheets - typically blended with cotton for extra durability.

Adding onto that, viscose and linen can be great for hotter months.

      • +1

Tencel and lyocell are the same thing. Tencel is just a brand name using the lyocell process for Rayon production.

Viscose is also a type of Rayon, it is just produced with a less environmentally friendly process that can cause health issues for the factory workers.

        • +1

Oh that's unfortunate about viscose. I'd recommend lyocell/modal over it anyway

    Polyester sheets are no good.

Thread count is a partial marketing scam. It does have some benefits. Higher thread count means higher durability. But it also means less breathability, which means that it overheats easier. Especially if it has polyester. Polyester is less breathable, and less moisture absorbing so you end up overheating and soaking in your own sweat.

Different materials operate better on different thread counts. But as a general rule of thumb, if it's claiming to be good quality material without polyester and it's over 600 TC, then it's probably a scam.

    • I picked up a few sets of 1200TC cotton sheet set from Vue (bought at Myer) years ago. I've been rotating through them. Can't find them any more though sadly

  • Yay nah it's got polyester
