Seeking DIY Advice: Need to Put This Camera on The Brick and The Solar Panel Mount on The Roof - How Should I Do It

Hello everyone,

I am attempting to mount a camera part on a brick wall and solar mount on the steel roof. I initially tried to secure it by drilling screws directly into the wall, but it seems that my drill is not working on the brick wall for some reason. It worked well with the internal walls, though. Now, I am considering attaching it to a piece of timber using screws, and then using Liquid Nails to adhere the timber to the brick wall.

Similarly, I am planning to attach a solar mount to a Colorbond steel roof by putting it on some timber through screws and then using liquid nail to secure it to the roof. However, I am concerned about the potential heat and rainfall exposure. Does anyone have any alternative suggestions? Would it be more effective to drill screws directly into the roof and wall? I am hesitant to do so as I worry that the holes in the roof might allow water to leak in or cause rusting. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you. I am noob when it comes to DIY stuff. Would be grateful for any help.

  • Sounds like need to use google how to abc (abc === what you want to do) and also check out youtube video's. If it is too hard or you do not know what you are doing after using google and youtube then google companies in your area that do handyman work and get them to do the work.

You need a masonary drill bit

and something like these wall plugs

    https://www.bunnings.com.au/ramset-7-x-35mm-green-wall-plugs…

they are a size 7 so you'd get a size 7 masonary drill bit

A hammer drill will be best but a normal drill should be fine, just might take some more time. Go slowish into the brick.

RE the roof I wouldn't drill into the colorbond but if you do you'd want to make sure you use the right type of screws to seal it. I'd probably do liquid nails like you suggested. Should be fine.

    • Liquid nails is no good. Will get dry and brittle in no time. Better to use silicone.

Yes. You need a masonry drill bit. As for the solar panel, look into gutter mount if you have gutter on the section of roof you want to mount it. It replaces the mount provided with the panel. You just screw the solar panel onto the gutter mount and clamp it on your gutter. Don't need to drill into your roof.

Can get from ebay quote cheaply.

Great tip, this is how I mounted mine, paid under $14 and have the solar panel aligned inside the gutter. Make sure you select the correct cable/connector for your camera.

As above, don't drill into your roof.
That would be one future lesson you don't want to learn.

Get a clamp style mount you can clip to your gutter or something

For the bricks, similar to above, you need a masonry bit and potentially a hammer drill depending on the density if your bricks.

    • Thank you - yes, ended up getting solar panel mount.

  • Get onto your favourite search engine and video sharing platform and search how to mount to brick walls. (Masonry bit and hammer drill)

Dont use liquid bails. Use silicone, especially if it isnt heavy.

If you're averse to drilling and don't mind attaching them to your gutters, try gutter mounts.

    • Thanks, yes, ended up getting that.
