Bulova Mini Lunar Pilot 96K111 Men's Watch $549 Delivered @ Starbuy

410

Recently been getting into my analogue watches after wearing smart/fitness watches. Just purchased another watch so cannot indulge but have always wanted a Omega Speedmaster Professional which is well out of my budget until I stumbled across this beauty. It has it's own history and fun fact Bulova used to make NASA equipment for the Lunar missions (1950s to 1970s) besides the Apollo 15 association with this watch.

I checked previous Ozbargain deals and reached out to Deepak to either price match to a foreign website or bring it for a deal. He was courteous to reach out to Bulova rep earlier this week and then I saw the watch back on sale today. It was a straight up purchase for me.

Thanks Deepak. I am not associated.

Copy from the same deal last time:
It's back on sale again. I bought it at this price and IMO it's worth every cent. The 262KHz quartz movement really is super-accurate, I haven't had to adjust the time once since I received mine. Yes, it measures up as a large watch but it wears a lot smaller than the specs suggest.

RRP $1,399.00
Sapphire Glass
43.5mm case diameter
12.5mm case thickness
20mm lug width/strap size
50mm lug to lug

Note - this is the ‘smaller’ 43.5mm case. The larger one is even bigger 45mm with a date window included. This one seems to come with two bands (metal and NATO).

Weekend Sale. I've got the yellow dial version of this Citizen auto white dial which is a really nice watch for $219 delivered.

The only weak point is the lume.

Also in the sale is the Seiko Zen Garden SSA379J at $499 again. This is one handsome watch, and comes with sapphire for those who care about it.

      • I saw that watch and thought it was the best of the lot. Such a beautiful watch. I would have bought it if it came with a metal band and if I wasn’t after a piece of Lunar story. It’s sapphire and automatic on top of the absolutely gorgeous open heart dial.

For some weird reason, the straight lines on the dial remind of the windy paddy fields in the anime movie ‘My neighbour Totoro’. So serene. Next time….

      Didn’t neg you.
It is a high frequency quartz movement so the sweep is like an automatic without the need for constant adjustments. Also, quartz bring more accuracy. However, I cannot deny that they can do that due to the associated history and Omega esk looks.

I have a quartz but is a lot pricier than this.. a good quartz is always useful in your collection as it's also what you can measure your mechanicals against when adjusting.
You can buy cheaper quartz but there are differences in quality between cheap and expensive quartz just like there are between cheap and expensive mechanical( although not as much)

It’s an amazing watch. Watch price depends on looks, story and uniqueness more than on the movement. Would never consider a mechanical anyway due to low accuracy.

Too many watch enthusiasts have this.

And as a percentage we are very small group so you'll probably never see one in public.

        So true this!

    • Im a watch enthusiast and have no interest in this.

Id rather get a vintage omega Quartz for that price.

I feel most would have bought the 45mm when it was released or not considered one due to the initial large size. Mini is the later release which has no date window making it true to the original and Omega Speedmaster. Given the size, it further narrows the buyers to mostly male buyers.
Also, let's be honest, this will always be a second choice and everyone will choose the Omega if price wasn't the barrier.
I believe this might still be very rare due the above.

Also, this is a much better option when compared to Swatch Moonwatch which is probably the actual competitor.

How tf do they call a 43mm watch 'mini'.

    • +2

Not to mention a lug to lug of 50mm

Thanks OP/Watchnerd for the prompt to check the specials. Picked up the divisive Seiko Speedtimer https://starbuy.com.au/seiko-speedtimer-mens-chronograph-wat… -Also have 2 vintage 6138-0040 "Speedtimer" bullhead, although only the brown dial is so-named. Only realised today, that the SFJ001P is a reissued variant of Sportura kinetics from the early 2000's.
