was researching more affordable 4K dashcams and posted this before, noticed its further reduced $30 now making it an ATL.

this dashcam has:
• capacitor
• 4K sony sensor
• 64GB built in eMMC memory (no extra memory card cost)

a user commented in previous deal saying this one does have proper 4K Sony sensor, and not just converting <4K video to 4K resolution.

another user mentioned the capacitor is designed to keep the camera running in extreme heat conditions. no battery inside it’s designed to run off USB-C or wired to car (extra kit and cost).

  • Anyone have this that can provide a review?

    • nobody that has one commented on the previous post.

probably learn more looking for feedback searching aliexpress reviews, forums and YouTube.

    • I have installed a various DDPAI models including this one - so I can only speak to my limited experience of installing and testing them.

This model appears to be a true 4K camera, despite the price point (using an older basic sensor), so if you're just after a dashcam to record footage while driving (car is on) it'll do a decent job, but don't expect too much from the parking mode feature, the app or setting options etc.

Also, I can't personally speak for reliablility, but haven't received any complaints/issues for the DDPAIs in general.

    • Reviewed below.

      it's just about amazing. I promise 😩

The capacitor is there to provide just enough power to allow the recording to finish writing to storage and shut down safely, avoiding corruption from sudden power loss. It's not there to 'keep the camera running in extreme heat conditions'.

    • Correct, but it helps save the unit from damage compared to if it had a lithium based battery which wouldn't like the extreme heat.

      • No, not really from damage. The lithium one fails in the heat fast. So the capacitor is merely there to last longer. They both perform the same function. Capacitor just does it more reliably.

        • +1

Damage from the battery swelling from extreme heat I mean. Batteries don't like to be cooked in a car for months on end.

True 4k sure, but it's Starvis 1 sensor. So night time plate reads aren't that great since it's not Starvis 2.

But not going to get Starvis 2 at this price point for 4k.

  • +2

This! Starvis 2 is a major upgrade in night use.
Also do know that a lot of cheap 4K (and even some expensive) dashcams regularly fail or even die in the harsh Aussie conditions. You get what you pay for in true 4K.

  • Just my 2cents if you're in the market for a dashcam, check out Comtec made in Japan, they have never missed a beat for me! I run a blackvue side by side and the blackvue constantly fails / loads slower etc.

  • I was lurking when I saw this deal.
    Criminally underrated.

Outstanding performance, surpasses literally just about all models I have tried in image processing and exposure control.

    Vivid, clear, true 4K
Only downside is that it's a single channel, but extremely minimalistic and straight forward.

Always connects to the app, always turns on immediately. A crowd pleasing "hello ding ding pie" every time you turn it on.

Outstanding value, blows Blackvue out of the water.

Trust me. you'll love it if it answers your needs.

    • Does it take SD/MicroSD card? 64GB is not enough for 4K if you go for a long trip

  • Any feedback on the N5 Dual?

  • whoops sorry mods I am guessing PICKUP10OFF code only applies to items sold by Amazon AU?

I will try to pay attention to that next time and not put it in the deal if it doesn't apply.

  • Wide angle is only 140 deg. Reckon its a downside?

  • Was about to purchase then the deal is gone after adding to cart. Noooooo!

    • should come back if you see the 3xcamels link in deal is dropped to $139.99 before.

this is actually the 2nd time I saw it at $139.99 just last time when I went to post the deal was over.

      • Yep it's back with a $60 coupon this time, got one! First dashcam hopefully it's a good one!

        • First dashcam hopefully it's a good one!

apparently the real test of a dashcam is constant loop record at 4K and hot aussie summer day.

constant loop record is what most people do because they say you can't always rely on the G sensor to start the video recording (I think you can adjust G sensor sensitivity but worst case is not having any video of accident). also helps to constantly record so if a slow accident happens it captures it.
