    Mhmm.. steamed hams!

  • +16

What if I were to purchase fast food and disguise it as my own cooking. Hohohoho! Delightfully devilish, Seymour!

  • +1

Another rooting deal from the red rooter

  • -3

howz RR whole chicken is it worth it?
Plus does not mention what size chips you get!

    • +8

RR chicken, both roast and fried is better than most.

Chips are large size (not family size)

    • +1

$12 for a coles or woolies chicken these days so its $3 for the chips and an arguably better chicken, definitly worth the deal IMO

      • +2

and probably less lies put inti their chickens

  • -2

    Large Chips
Not really enough if you are sharing the meal, and unable to upsize the chips so need to add and extra chips which will bring it to around $20

    • -6

Roast chicken at Cole’s is $12 and a 1kg bag of frozen chips (enough for the whole family) is $4.
Worth the extra $2 and using the old air fryer so everyone gets chicken and chips

      • +5

not sure where everyone lives, but imo red rooster chicken is awesome, its the only thing keeping the stores open, its a shame it seems overpriced. But i would take RR chook over any other roast chook from a fast food place. oh, and i like pineapple fritters.

        • You clearly haven't tried El Jannah

          • +4

@Oztx: I have and it was overpriced dry rubbish, the dips and chips were absolutely amazing though!

          • +2

@Oztx: Who rates El Jannah, its dryed out rubbish.
When it was just Granville it was good but since they became a chain it has gone downhill.
            Hawa is way better.

      • +2

are you trying to compare fried chips to air 'oven roasted' fried chips..

  • But why 5-8pm?

    • +2

      Dinner traffic

    • -1

Exactly. Should be 5-6.30pm. Any time I try and get a chicken after that time at my local store I get the "sorry we are out of chickens"…but we can do a burger or wrap instead. What a magnificent store it is. :-0

  • +3

Good deal, if you consider a 1/4 chicken + chips is what, $9 or so? 4 times the chicken and twice the chips for an extra $6.

  • +4

Good deal, not steamed hams good, but good

  • How does red rooster whole chook compare to Costco?

    • +1

I prefer red rooster for taste and their stuffing. Costco seem more drier and lack stuffing but its $6.99 which is below cost.

      • -1

Surprised you'd say drier but then again I've never had a red rooster chook and I've only compared Costco's chook to colesworth .. colesworth chooks are overpriced garbage.

        • +1

I wouldnt call what ppl eat as garbage

    • Smaller, just still tender

    • +1

Better flavour IMO but definitely smaller.

    • fantastically if you are living in one of the many places that arent anywhere newr a costco i guess

    • +1

Seriously? Costco? Their chicken is so pumped with God knows what, no flavor, always eerily pink in the middle and thighs.

  • Have only ever had KFC cuz it's usually cheaper but it's has been good/bad based on the stores and items ordered.

Never had Red Rooster. Is the general consensus that it's better than KFC? I have a few friends who say it's pretty much the same and other who swear RR is better. Nobody has told me that its worse so thats good I guess.

    • +2

If you're comparing the fried chicken it's just "different". It's much crispier and juicier than KFC but there's no herbs or spices, it's just brined chicken so the main flavour is savoury/salty. The pieces used to be massive, sadly they seem to be smaller these days and more on par with KFC's chicken.

There's more variety at Red Rooster in terms of sides too, you can get a more vegetables as sides (e.g. roast potatoes, sweet potato chips, peas, corn etc.) and their P&G is better than KFC's IMO. KFC's gravy is nice but the mash is bland, Red Rooster's gravy is nice and the mash tastes a lot more buttery.

      • Thanks going to buy two whole chickens tonight

      • Red Rooster really needs to have pasta salads and potato salads as sides. They're the classic to go with BBQ chicken.

  • +1

Best roast chicken in the biz, now I’m hungry

  • Can we change out the chips for something else?

    • Can we change to coleslaw?

  • -4

I suspect Costco has changed a new recipe for their roasted chicken recently. It cooks better and it tastes nicer. Best of all, the price remains at $6.99 each. For those who have the membership, it's cheaper to buy 2 x Costco chicken than this Rooster deal.

    • +3

I'd rather RR, than fight the grab hags I fought off last time I picked up a chook at Costco.

      • omg.. this is a thing sadly.

        • +1

          Costco is wild!

    • to compare Costco and Red Rooster

Costco - Cheaper at $6.99 but its a standard roast chicken. nothing wrong with that but only good if you live close by, you wouldn't want to travel to costco just for that (fortunately i'm 5 mins away so yes if i need to do some costco groceries at same time then i'll get a chicken whilst i'm at it)

Red Rooster - double price compared to costco but has a bit more flavour which is nothing wrong with that. Its nice to have some red rooster, oportos, frangos to mix it up

      • this.

      • +1

Plus i'd add the time it takes to find a park, walk to entrance, then to navigate the crowds, joining the long checkout queue and exit the car park (stop for a $2 hot dog). I struggle to do it under 40 mins in Costco without being pushy. Maybe 25 mins with Coles/Woolies. But red rooster drive-through… 5-10 mins depending on off/on peak time and not even have to leave my car

  • RR lost me when they removed their salad roll. (The salad roll, by the way, did contain chicken).

The bread roll for this salad roll was crunchy with great texture. It all worked so very well.

  • +4

So much better than $12 coleworth soggy bagged chicken, with chips!

  • Do I have to order between 5-8pm, or the pick up needs to be between 5-8pm?

    • +2

yes i'd like to know too, appears you need to order from 5pm, can't see it on app to order for 5pm pickup

  • -1

Shame there's only 5 RR in the entirity of SA and the closest is 15 minutes (or 3 KFCs) away

  • yep its active now so order after 5pm …. looks like i have to go inside shop instead of drive thru..

  • +1

My partner tried to get this just now at Bayswater in Victoria. They have no idea about this promotion. Is it app only?

  • Just went through the drive-through in Gladstone Park. Showed them the screenshot and they honoured it. Charged me $15. They did say it was meant to be online only though…

    • Yeah, I can find it on app now. Cheers

  • RR have had $15 chook and chips from early in the month and runs to 26/05. No time of day either.
