Android Auto after Market Head Unit Help

Hi all

Just got an aftermarket head unit for my car which has android auto. Works fine bar the fact that when I turn my heated seats on, it’s showing as on the wrong side. I e drivers side showing up as being on on passenger.

Taking a punt on the OzB community to see if anyone knows how to troubleshoot?

Did you buy the American (left hand drive)?

    • Don’t believe so. Bought from an Aussie website. And changed it from left hand drive to right hand.

Did you try switching it to left hand drive then?

  • What model of car?

    • Cruze

Then this issue is the least of your problems.

The model of the head unit might have been useful information too….

    • I know right. It just says M-S Android

  • The head unit canbus settings or button sensing are incorrect.

But you're on your own on how.

It's some crappy Chinese thing in a Cruze. They don't care if the portion of vehicles which are RHD dont show seat heaters on the correct side. I'd save my money for head gasket/timing chain/oil cooler/coil pack/transmission repairs instead.

Just tear the car apart and swap the cables around.

Make sure you've maxed out your agreed cover, drive it to the top of a steep hill by a lake and take the handbrake off.

    It'll save you the hassle.

*take the Android unit out first though, thats worth something.

How hard is it to convert the car to left hand drive?

  • There is a settings on the phone for Android Auto. One of them is to set the drivers seat. May or may not be of help.

Interesting. So I’d need to borrow someone’s android phone?

No, you don't. That only changes Android Auto UI and not the head unit UI itself.

You bought a head unit with Android Auto but don't own an Android.

Yes. Because it also does Apple car play

          • @bemybubble: What's the head unit model number? Any information on it?

I'd be checking out the Automotive Android Discord channel for help. Much as I hate forums that aren't easily reachable from search engines, there's a huge amount of knowledge to mine there.

I think there is a low probability of success, but might be worth checking kswtoolkit. It's an Android app you need to install direct onto the head unit that can intercept and alter signals to the Automotive Android Headunit (KSW) software that a lot of Chinese head units use, to implement tweaks and expose car integrations. I say this is low probability because I think KSW only works with Snapdragon based units, and your manual seems to suggest it's an ARM Cortex unit instead. It'll kick up an error if incompatible, but might surprise you.
