  • Is this code in addition to the standard 20% off with your JWAUSTRALIA20 code?

    • I just tried, didn’t work. So don’t think this is much of a deal then

  • I dunno how many people are aware of this but I found out when I visited Japan about a year ago with vodafone all I had to do was pay $5 per day extra to carry my plan over to work in Japan. Worth checking out if you need to retain your number whilst overseas, same for Germany when I visited at the beginning of the year, it just detects that you are in a "$5 country" and automatically switches over and charges. There are better raw deals for data of course, but the convenience of landing and using my phone without even looking at a 7/11 or general store was great, especially when you get those night time flights.

Most people buy travel sim card before they leave the country. Even more convenient nowadays with esims.

      • What's even more convenient is not having to buy a travel sim at all.

    • I used Optus $5 per day. The service was horrible once outside of Tokyo. Workable but unreliable for Optus $5 per day pack in Japan outside of Tokyo.

      • Thats a shame, vodafone worked perfectly, weirdly enough my reception was worse in Germany where vodafone actually has a presence, whereas Japan they use other carriers in an agreement.

  • Other vendors are selling Japan travel data SIMs, which in my experience have been Hong Kong or Taiwan based products which use SoftBank in Japan at a fairly slow speed (rate limited well under 10Mbit/s).

Which carrier does Japan Wireless use and is there any rate limiting of download speeds?

  • Just get an esim and disable your local sim on the plane over, done.
Portable wifi you have to pick up and return
Roaming will be more than an esim unless you're there for only a couple of days.

  • 3gig 7 day esim for $50 USD after 20%…..yeah nah.

Dozens of Sims on Amazon for better price.

I used the company for our 2 week trip end of last year. They were great. We had a unit fail to charge so I emailed them and they arranged delivery of a new unit to our hotel next day. Almost instant responses to email.

    • I think you're flying a reg flag and you don't even realise.

      • Well you could say that but I guess if you are stuck they do provide support.

  • Can't apply coupon. Account required to apply coupon. Can't create account.

  • Family is heading to Japan soon, and won't always be together. I suspect each person having a sim would be most feasible. Anyone know if 4 of these sims are a good option?
