Kogan 49" Curved Ultrawide Dual QHD 5K USB-C Freesync Monitor $899 ($879 with Kogan First) + Delivery @ Kogan

90

It is in the title 49 inch curved monitor with FreeSync.

Only downside is 60Hz refresh rate but then again the human eye is unable to perceive anything higher than this.
In all seriousness I purchased an ultra wide from Kogan a few years back and it was very good value.

If i didnt just recently buy one i would be adding this to my setup.

    • Sorry, but could you tell us which bit you are referring to?

      • +1

        60 mhz bit is a joke/meme

        • i dlove to see what was said, im guessing its about how the human eye can akschually detect above 60hz?

  • How has your experience been with your kogan monitor?
Their monitors look like great value but curious why they don't seem to get much attention

    • +3

I have been running a kogan monitor since 2019 (49 inch 144 refresh rate) so not the same as this one, but have been using it for gaming and for working from home, no issues with it at all.

Apparently it has a Samsung panel in it, for my usage case its been fine.

i think i had the same one, does it have a little RGB top on the stand?

        • Yes thats right, why they bothered with the RGB I dont know, but thats the one you change the RGB through the monitors menu.

They don't always advertise the right spec - and it's a complete nightmare getting them to admit and refund it, even if you provide photo and video proof. Their clueless customer support will just shrug and say "it looks the monitor is working to me" when that's not the point entirely. You WILL need to get OFT involved for them to weasel out with a "oh we will be doing this one-time goodwill gesture". (profanity) off, you are committing fraud.

I don't know if this is because they switch around to the lowest cost OEM regularly with little unannounced changes in spec, but this kind of inconsistency is why nobody with a reputation to uphold will "review" or "recommend" kogan.

I think my experiences would qualify for appropriate use of negative vote - but mods seem zealous today.

        They out hard today

    • I bought 2 monitors from them back before I joined ozbargain. The 2 suppose to be identical monitors are not identic at all, it look weird in the dual monitor setup.
Other than that, it still working fine 4 years later for daily WFH and gaming after work.

    • Look i loved my panel, was a 49, 144hz refresh rate. I would still have it if it wasnt for the removalists that decied the screen would be better with a snapped base and cracked LCD.

I would buy again if i was in the market

I had 3x Kogan monitors as a tri-screen setup, all worked a treat. I will say, if you are a technical aficionado then sure, this isn't the setup for you. But for your everyday user who loves a casual game, these are perfect

The curve needs to be more aggressive in this size for me.

    • you looking for a hugging monitor

      • +1

For those lonely nights, so what! 😃

  • All I do is desktop browsing and MS word and Excel usage for work. I would call it light computer work (ie no gaming etc).

Would this be good for me?

      Ticks all the boxes.

    • For work, I personally find dual/triple monitors set up is better than ultra wide. 2× 27inch monitors can be had for under $300.

      • Much more cost effective, but also I'd much rather have 49" if budget permits. 49" allows you to have one main window centred instead of looking either left or right all the time (3 monitors also allows for this). But the real benefit of 49" is just being able to lay out however you like, if you want 5 windows open you can have them spaced out across it however you like e.g. 5 evenly spread or one wider one in the centre and 2 on each side smaller windows.

I went from 32"@4K to 44.5"@2K and I'm not sold on the super ultra wide yet - I feel like just lose too much space vertically.

The 32" I could see a lot more rows, the 44.5" I can see a lot more columns.

      • +1

Should have gone 38" 16:9 ratio

      • Yeah I'd never go 44.5" because of the vertical thing. I'd go either 49" (even still I would want more height than the 27" height) or a 38" 21:9 (similar height to 32" 16:9).

  • Damn if i dont have 32" 4k i will get this

  • Only downside is 60Hz refresh rate but then again the human eye is unable to perceive anything higher than this.

    Um what

Mind you i'm typing on my kogan ultrawide that i've had since covid and love it. i think it's only 75hz though.

    • jst jks, was a meme getting around a while back. i think it was like flat earthers, it started as a joke then became a movement with people actually believing it

      • Ahhh got ya ;)

      • +1

I actually believed it for about 10 years until someone on OzBargain shared the debunking for me haha

  • How is the quality on this vs the Acer QHD 49" that's $300 more. I'd be concerned with a Kogan that it's gonna just stop working the moment the warranty runs out. $900 monitor I probably want it to last a bit longer. I guess that can happen with the Acer too…
