  • Any deals out of Cairns?

With canal traffic a bit low and Cairo having splurged too much for a new business town it is time to see now before their money drought turnes into an issue.

  • You could consider buying 2 separate tickets, OOL-KUL with Air Asia ($865 plus extras) then KUL to CAI with Emirates ($960).
Its risky, cos if one sector got cancelled or delayed then you miss the next flight and forfeit the flight. To minimise that risk, you could spend the night in KUL each way and/or fly via SYD still with Air Asia cos they only fly 3 times a week from OOL but daily form SYD.

Another option is SYD-CAI with Sichuan Airlines, its only one stop in Chengdu but has long layover times, 20 hours each way ($1800) but unless you can figure out the chinese website you'd have to book through an agent. Obviously then you have the issues of extra cost, time and risk of delay/cancellation again with your BNE-SYD flights

The cheapest, most straightforward option is probably China Eastern return BNE to CAI with a 5 hour stopover outbound and 15 hours inbound ($2023 direct on their website). They dont have daily flights, if you depart on a Friday then you can return on the Saturday so you probably have to stay a day longer than you intend.

BNE to CAI on Etihad via MEL and AUH ($3407) each stopover is 3 hours.

The best option is on Qatar, one stop but its over $4K

Just be careful with that fare you found, if it involves a "self transfer" it basically means its not all on one ticket so if you miss one sector you're on your own and if its through an online agent, it could be costly or impossible to change anything

  • if you're flexible I see China Eastern return BNE to CAI via Shanghai for $1200 departing late May
