Cracked the screen, prob 4mths old. Livid.
Are screen replacements still a mixed bag like only apple can do it for faceID to work properly and such?
Apples like 800 bucks for replacement, it's usable still just a crack on the side, screen protector and case did jack all.
Considering got the phone for 50% more than the repair it feels like a big waste.. otherwise plan would be to live with it till iphone 16 and trade it in or something…
The Adrenaline is pumping - so upset…

Here is the cheapest iPhone insurance policy to take out when phone is new……
Shock-resistant phone case and hardened glass screen protector
Guessing you didn't take out AppleCare+ on it?
It didnt seem value at the time, but does now.
yep pretty much but i was dicked around with the process, i mistakenly got coles apple cards thinking i could use the balance, it was possible but it was such a mess around that I was like f it i'll go without this time.. naturally this happens now…
Screen wasn't cracked back then.
apple care?
trade it in
it's pretty much worthless when there's damage
yeah saw that, will try and sell off below trade in value when 16 comes out I guess, maybe someone will self repair or similar come then..
Apple has been improving repairability. If you've done screen replacements before it may be worth doing a deeper dive into sourcing the part for your iPhone 15.
You can't repair the screen yourself and retain full functionality as they have soft-locked it. You need to run AST to get it to work, and that's only with a valid repair number and part IDs.
iPhone 15 Pro Max is included under Apple's Self Service Repair. The repair manual says if you replace the display, initiate System Configuration by putting the device into diagnostics mode, tap Start Session and follow the onscreen prompts. I'm just not sure we can easily source the genuine repair parts from here.
You can do it yourself, but it probably costs more to do after you factor in the price of the parts and tools they require you to use.
However, it's not available in Australia.
Yeah no. Apple is full of shit. The process is convoluted and costs just as much as going through Apple or one of authorised repairers..
Did you buy with a Credit Card that has screen damage insurance?
ozbargain coles gift cards 15-20% off and jbhifi dealio
Apples like 800 bucks for replacement
Did you actually look…? Says $549 for iphone 15 Pro.

sorry, pro max, I had gone that site before and was glass back and screen for the 800's.. 600 is still a stretch but it's still usable for now so will see.. screen protector did take a bit of the brunt so peelin that back might be more ok..
If the screen is crack and you can afford to replace the screen, do it. Once the screen is cracked, the phone is no longer resistant and it may cause damages to the internal by rain, splash or accidentally dropped in toilet.
Bringing back flashbacks with one of my phones a long time ago. Fortunately they repaired it under warranty.
Do you use any case at all and use any screen?
yes, Otterbox case and Apple store applied screen protector - i think belkin..
fell about 50cm flat on footpath..
i mean it's 2024, figured these things were built beter now.. le sighI know someone who smashed his Genius Bar iPhone XR loaner so had to pony up for its repair cost.
Otterbox cases are crap. Go with Tech21 that has the FlexShock or something else that has an elastomer lining around the edges.
yep wont be getting another otter after this..
Dropping it on concrete isn't good. And if you've dropped it a few times before in the past you may have weakened the glass even if you couldn't see any cracks. If you're the kind of person to drop your stuff then you should probably get Apple Care or other insurance. Some people are just clumsy or careless.

You mentioned here that you dropped and cracked the back glass in January this year, I would've probably swapped cases right away after that incident.
yep, back "glass" had small line after that cafe drop. had no case then.
Got a slightly upgraded version of that case linked shortly after and it's been solid but I also think the stiffness of the titanium body is not helping with drops and stuff tooYeah I think you might be right with that. My partners for the same phone and accidentally dropped it just yesterday with an OtterBox case and luckily no damage
$549 through Apple

Apple will have to replace both the front and back glass at the same time, hence the higher fee for OP
EDIT: He cracked the back glass a few months ago
Ahh I forgot about that.
Could get an authorised repair on the back glass for like a hundred or so.
OP's fault but damn, I do not like non durable backs on phones.
if you have home content insurance, you could try that.
Ask politely for a free repair as it's only 4 months old?
A free repair for physical damage lol
Need a fair bit of luck but has happened in the past. No Apple care.
Didn't you get apple care?
was dicked around by the apple credit at the apple store - had coles gift cards and some others mixed in with an apple balance. was a come back later and forgot dealio.. will just get upfront next time around..
also the screen protector took the brunt of it, peeled it back and it's not as bad as i thought.
Could you claim under insurance?
