ChatGPT Free Users Will Have Access to GPT-4 Level Intelligence and Features @ OpenAI

2612

Good morning!!

OpenAI has announced the ChatGPT 4o.

This announcement came with some freebies for free users.

When using GPT-4o, ChatGPT Free users will now have access to features such as:

• Experience GPT-4 level intelligence

• Get responses(opens in a new window) from both the model and the web

• Analyze data(opens in a new window) and create charts

• Chat about photos you take

• Upload files(opens in a new window) for assistance summarizing, writing or analyzing

• Discover and use GPTs and the GPT Store

• Build a more helpful experience with Memory

There will be a limit on the number of messages that free users can send with GPT-4o depending on usage and demand. When the limit is reached, ChatGPT will automatically switch to GPT-3.5 so users can continue their conversations.

    The design is very human

Is this post submitted by chat GPT?

    • +1

      You are a chatGPT

      • I have a question, ChatGPT got its data from us over the years, so when we all use ChatGPT from now on, for the next generation, there be a generation GAP?

  • -1

4 has more functions than 3? Better results?

    • Yeah its way better. More recent results. Better capabilities. 3's knowledge base is dated now.

  • +2

Copilot that uses GPT-4 is still free?

    • Was going to say this… ChatGPT 4 is easily accessible for free already, so why would you care about this?

Seems like there's a fair few limitations on this version as well compared to Copilot. Not such a good deal.

      • +2

Copilot is not ChatGPT, its 2 different products that use openAI's GPT-4

        • +4

Copilot sounds rather more like an idiot by comparison. At least that’s my opinion after comparing both.

          • +2

@Commodore64: I've found Copilot to be superior to at least the free version of ChatGPT. It delivers correct answers to questions a lot more often, because it has internet access.

          • @Commodore64: Depend on your use case, copilot really helpfull for something related to education, research, bussiness, and software development. While ChatGPT more about general knowledge and content creation.
Also the more you interact with AI on a single subject, the more accurate their answer will be. Thats how machine learning work

        • Yes, but it's still free and easy to access…

          • @DingoBilly: It’s useful and free - for sure.
If I had to guess I’d say the copilot responses are designed for speed and efficiency versus ChatGPT.
It feels like it just “gave the first search result it found”

    • Yes, but goodluck trying to coerce it to do anything, very painful. Also acts like a sensitive brat.

  • +2

    nice!

i hope gpt-4 is better at maths than 3.5!

  • ChatGPT 4o will be free, not ChatGPT 4.

    • Meaning the conversational thing? I'm finding it all very confusing

  • Also, it seems ChatGPT 4o free access is pretty much limited. I hit the restrictions after few chats.

"Users on the Free tier will be defaulted to GPT-4o with a limit on the number of messages they can send using GPT-4o, which will vary based on current usage and demand. When unavailable, Free tier users will be switched back to GPT-3.5."

    • +1

Yeah. Imho it’s more like a bait for you to subscribe, which you should do anyway if it increases your productivity meaningfully.

  • +1

You are the product. AI requires data.

    • Stable Diffusion works wonders with the data you input. The ability to generate complex images in seconds based on a few words.

      • Yes, it's pretty amazing but can't do text like the other models, but a shame SD3 isn't publicly available yet.

    • I think in general this applies to free products, and I guess there is a free component here, so yes, we're providing free training material and testing for OpenAI. I still find it a valuable tool for enhancing my work productivity and pay for the additional access. I will be at least attempting to claim as a tax deduction.

    • And?

    • The data is scraped from the internet in a much greater way than individual users are providing data to it. You're not the product, but there are definite (and worrying) ethical considerations about the data AI chatbots rely on and use.

Great for help with excel formulas.

  • RIP Respond time

  • -4

I'm not trying to be inflammatory but after half an hour of playing with ChatGPT I put it down and forget about it. At this moment I just don't have any use cases for it. Having said that, my daughter enjoys chatting to it via the iphone app and is furious if I change the voice……

    • +3

I use it as part of my job in IT all the time. Mainly when I need data in a specific format, creating PowerShell scripts easily or creating those horrible Excel formulas I just can't ever remember properly.

Interestingly the real estate industry use it a lot now. Tasks that would have previously been done through an outsourcing company in the Philippines.

    • +3

Don't worry, this dial up Internet thing is just a fad…. certainly no need to invest it.

  • -1

Co-Pilot is free and has GPT4?

    • +1

Honest mistake, all versions of a particular model like GPT-4\GPT-4o are not equal. The Co-Pilot version has a smaller dataset optimised for Microsoft Services.
Don't get me wrong, it's actually quite good, just want to clarify that there is a big difference between GPT-4 models.

      • OK thanks for that clarification.

    • -3

Consider Co-Pilot (and other GPT4 "Powered") services like re-sellers of the Telstra / Optus / Vodafone networks ie, Amaysim, Kogan, Aldi Mobile, Boost.

Boost Mobile uses Telstra, but does not get the full service, doesn't access all the towers, and therefore is still sub-par to official Telstra plans, hence why people still use Telstra mobile as their provider and not a reseller.

  • +2

Every new version on ChatGPT and other AI engines is making other dedicated apps such as language translators and others not required.
There will be a time in the not to distant future where AI will take over and you will have that one interaction for all your information.
    General Computing will disappear

    • +2

I'm just waiting for the day I can upload my consciousness to the cloud.

      • and then what

        • +1

Sell useless organs to pay for more cloud

    • Checkout the new Google Photos update at the I/O event - we are slowly getting there, segment by segment until it all comes into one and a new tech leader will emerge.

  • +1

I logged into my chatgpt on pc- and cannot see 4o access. what am i missing ?

    • Expect it shortly, 4o is being rolled out gradually to Plus users over the next few weeks. The BETA roll=out of voice features, won't start for a number of weeks yet.

      • thanks

  • Thanks OP, I'm having a look atm trying to figure out when this all starts or has started. I wanted to try file upload for a project. Anyone know?

Edit- of course I asked it - "You can't directly upload files in this chat interface, but you can share the content of the file with me by copying and pasting the text here. If it's a specific type of file, like a code snippet, I can help you understand or work with it. If it's a document or text, simply paste it, and we can discuss it or analyze it together. If you have a specific question or need assistance with something related to a file, feel free to share the details, and I'll do my best to help you out!"😥

  • • Chat about photos you take

At last, someone who has to sit there and listen.

    • +1

That will be $33.00 per month with 80 messages per 3 hours please.

  • +1

    At what cost ?

  • Curious if the free 4o version will have DALLE?

  • +9

This ‘deal’ should be posted when it was actually rolled out to users, not just the announcement. It’s currently unobtainable with an indeterminate release date…. May as well be a news article!

    • It's rolling out in the next few weeks though. I created a new account and it got it…

    • Agreed description needs updating

  • If you download Bing app onto your mobile device you can open the chat section and there will be a toggle to "Use ChatGPT4" — it's free :)

  • I am ok with GPT-4o. I am only concerned when AI becomes the 50.

  • +1

Not sure why the boomers are scared. They'll finally be able to just type or say "rotate PDF"

  • -1

Microsoft Copilot is gpt4 I believe. Just download the app

  • Disappointingly I am still at 3.5

  • +1

i just login and only have 3.5. Sad! Gemini is better!

    • +1

Gemini is slow but I get better responses so far

For those interested, this was a good interview with Yoshua Bengio, Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Operations Research at Université de Montreal, as well as the Founder and Scientific Director of Mila and the Scientific Director of IVADO. Considered one of the world’s leaders in artificial intelligence and deep learning, he is the recipient of the 2018 A.M. Turing Award with Geoff Hinton and Yann LeCun, known as the Nobel prize of computing.

Considered one of the "fathers" of modern ai. Now takes a much more cautious attitude.

    8. Enthusiasm: Excitement about advanced capabilities and new features.
    9. Humour: Light-hearted interactions and cultural references in the discussion.

(Yes I have ChatGPT Plus so have access to 4o)

  • There will be a limit on the number of messages that free users can send with GPT-4o depending on usage and demand. When the limit is reached, ChatGPT will automatically switch to GPT-3.5 so users can continue their conversations.

So is it a daily limit? And how can I activate it since it looks like I'm stilling using the 3.5 version.

    • +1

Usually a limit of 50 messages per 4-hour block. This will require an update, so once whoever you are using rolls it out, you should gain access.

I had access within seconds as an API user, on the premise that my API app provider updated the app, which they did.

  • For those than want “Plus” subscription cheaper than $20USD/$29.90AUD per month, create a Turkish Apple ID, and subscribe via the ChatGPT App for ₺499.99/$23.22AUD: https://imgur.com/a/sEH6fDa

    • Oh such a big difference!

      • -1

        Yeah hardly worth the saving

        • +1

Sorry, I didn’t realise 22% savings was not worthy enough for ozB, even if it only take 5 minutes

          • @antik: It's less than that because of the cost involved with getting the TRY, but a saving is a saving so thanks for sharing.

    • Just go through the API instead and set a cost cap. For most users' infrequent usage, you'd be paying a few dollars instead of ~$30 per month.

      • How is this done?

  • Still only 3.5 and Plus 4.0 for me

    • Same even for me it says 3.5 and GPT 4 is paid. cant see that option.

  • "As of my last update, there hasn't been any announcement about ChatGPT free users gaining access to GPT-4 intelligence and features. It's always best to verify such claims with official sources before considering them as deals."

Guess they didn't want ChatGPT 3.5 to feel bad so haven't told it yet 😄

  • i see this message when i visit https://chatgpt.com

    "Introducing GPT‑4o

You now have limited access to our latest model, GPT‑4o. It’s smarter, understands images, can browse the web, and speaks more languages."

    understanding images sounds intriguing
