How much do you get back from Medicare?

    • Whats the medicare rebate from taking a taxi to Melbourne Airport with jv as your driver

I've used the Full Body MoleMap before - very very thorough process. Can recommend.

    • I’ll just add to this that if you’re frequently checking this with your GP, partner, etc. then these scans won’t be much better. If you aren’t, this is a HUGE improvement.

Scans are convenient, detailed, and thorough. But the research only says they catch small issues earlier - that your dr would have caught roughly around the same time or slightly later. There was no difference in death rates.

If you’re not doing anything, this will make a big difference. But it’s much cheaper to get a doctor to do this as an extended GP session, if they are comfortable. Some Drs won’t do this, others do.

  • Isnt this covered by Medicare??

    • I can't see any reason why it wouldn't be.

It would save the government a lot of money in the long run.

    • Not sure about the Skin Check, but the Full Body isn't from memory. There might be a portion that's reimbursed but I can't recall.

We're well passed that. I've not had a fully bulk billed appointment in a long time.

My last skin check was $130, Medicare rebate was $41.41. Took a total of 15 minutes.

Government doesn't give a flying (profanity) about covering costs of doctors clinics. As costs have risen, Medicare benefit hasn't kept up.

People should get regular skin checks. My GP spotted my Melanoma 23 years ago and removed it in his office. They sent the sample off for analysis and, unfortunately , it was a tad deeper than they hoped so I had a hospital visit to do a 1cm excise around the area; this came back clear. My specialist said my GP was just as good as him at spotting Melanomas so my GP now does an annual skin check. I call it a reverse striptease, I have to pay someone else to see me naked.

People need a really good GP, even if you have to do a copayment. My GP has a bunch of specialists he knows which means I, usually, don’t wait a long time to be seen by anyone. With my melanoma he got the specialist to stay back a bit later so I was seen months earlier than the next appointment was.

I don’t know anything about these guys but getting regular checks is important.

Agree, had a full check 6 months ago. Had one cut/scraped out that was suspicious. Sent to pathology and they wanted more to be cut out to be sure. So back and cat deeper and 5 stitches. After they sent the bigger cutout for testing. Luckily nothing nasty but was developing. Going back next year again.

      • In my case I thought it was an age spot, you get older you get spots. It turns out the "age spot" was a BCC but there was a Melanoma within the BCC. it is so easy to just pretend it is nothing until it is too late. Still makes me shiver to think about it.

Apparently he said after you turn 40 you shouldnt really get any new moles. And if so to check them out.
