although I don't understand Japanese, but it's always the best to have the original audio track that matched their lip movement.

    • +2

And subtitles on so you know what’s actually being said 😂

    • +2

The dubbing on this film is best in class. It very, very closely follows the movement of their lips and it has a phenomenal english cast.

This is the rare anime that can VERY easily be enjoyed in english as well as japanese.

One of the greatest anime films of all time.

  • The Scarlet Johansson movie was so bad.

    • -4

      Does she identify as Japanese?

    • This is the anime.

    • +2

It was, mostly because it was so focused on the stupid origin story side of things and not the implications of the Major's condition and the implications of having/being a 'ghost' like the anime/manga. Could actually have been half decent with a more appropriate actress and better script, some of the effects (like the tank fight) are great.

    Such a Great movie.

  • OG price?

To clarify, 4K UHD disc is region free (they all are).
Only the Bluray is region locked.

    • +2

To clarify, 4K UHD disc is region free (they all are).

They are meant to be, but there are a few movies released with region encoding, which doesn't adhere to the 4K standards. Such a small list hardly worth worrying about (this movie isn't one of them)

  • Didn't like it when I was younger… Was it because I was about 15? From my perspective (not that of a fan) should I retry this or just let it go?

    • +2

      retry.

    • Yeah, retry it.

    • Try Akira first.

That's where it all started (for westerners).

      • I had the same response at the same age

It's available for free to watch on prime? Assuming you've prime if you're getting free delivery?

    • Also only 12.99 on Prime to buy so what is the advantage of this out of curiosity?

      • +3

Version on Prime Video doesn't seem to be 4K. Also doesn't include the special features that the blu-ray has.

        • +7

Plus streaming won't have lossless audio, and video bitrate, even if it were in 4K would be much lower compared to disc.

            @Randolph Duke: Thanks @CartoonPizza @Randolph Duke
This makes sense and I wasn't aware of this

      • Had a look at the ATV version, same price and it says HD.
Both 1995 or 25th anniversary version are available.

    • You can keep it when your subscription runs out. Or, you don't have to worry about it leaving the service.

  • is this the 1995 release with the added cgi?

    • +1

No, that is Ghost in a shell 2.0

  • What to go with it to utilize the extra 9%??

  • Classic.

  • Grabbed one, thanks OP.

  • This may sound stupid but is the movie on the blu ray disc also or just the 4k disc?

    • +3

This actually doesn't look like it comes with the movie on Blu ray, contrary to the OP's comments. Just a Blu ray with special features. When they do, they usually say so on the front cover at the top along the lines of "4K + Blu ray"

It was one of my favourite films growing up. I watched it recently again. It holds up extremely well.
