Great little offer by Etihad.

Etihad offers a stopover hotel program, whereby those who plan a stopover of at least 24 hours in Abu Dhabi can take advantage of up to two free nights in a hotel. Don’t expect the most luxurious hotels in the world, but this is still potentially a great opportunity, especially since the airline didn’t previously offer this.

For hotel bookings in Abu Dhabi, an additional fee of AED 15 per room per night applies. Guests must settle all additional fees directly with the hotel.

Who is eligible?

Have a pre-arranged visa to enter the UAE or are eligible for a visa on arrival

Splitting hairs, but minimum charge is about ~$6.16 per night stay. So not free.

Is Burj Al Arab one of the included hotel?

    • +3

You are given a hotel at random from their preferred list. You can't choose to change it. They are generally 2 or 3 star hotels. Not 7 star hotels like the Burj.

    • +2

That’s in Dubai, not Abu Dhabi

  • +10

Burj Al Arab is in Dubai. This offer is for Abu Dhabi. Worth to go visit the Ferrari Park and the Louvre

  • Anyone knows if Velocity Points can be redeemed to book flights along with this hotel package offer?

    • Given the massive fees associated with Etihad bookings using Velocity points, it wouldn't be a wise use of points.

Free swimming pool 😁 and locals are the above all so be quiet and patient there.

Please read all the terms and conditions first, I fell for this trap and had the worse experience even with free shuttle too.

You have to book the flight first, only then you can check if you are eligibile and accomodation is availabile on your dates. If you book, check within 24 hrs for free cancellation.

For me no rooms were available from their stopover portal, even though they were available elsewhere

    • Also that if you book a return trip, you're only eligible on one leg of the whole journey. So, if you book it when leaving AU, you'll have to book yourself on the way back.

There's a lot of negative feedback online about this, some people didn't get offered a hotel so they got stitched with having to pay for one themselves.

That's mainly why I avoided it.

  • If in transit for less than 48hrs in uae, do you need a visa? Thanks

    • In transit implies you remain airside at the airport & do not cross the immigration threshold. In order to do so, you require a visa, either pre-arranged or VOA, per the eligibility criteria listed in the OP.

      • Ok thanks.
Some airfare.deals advertised by certains sites state you need to collect the luggage yourself and re self check in with another airline, so was just trying to work out what needs to happen. I have noticed staying overnight in UAE can lower the ticket price noticeably, and thought even tho some arrivals are shorter periods ie 9h, 17, 21hs, I didn't think you needed a visa (heresay), will investigate further many thanks 👍.

        • It may not be a formal visa but you will be subject to some sort of immigration clearance, physical or electronic. It usually involves a stamp in the passport. I recall Singapore used to be like that for Australian citizens, you simply went through customs & out into the city and returned when it was time to fly. On occasion I would pick flights with an 8-14hr layover so I could head into the city and spend some time or grab a feed etc. Once I went to the museum and the bird zoo.

          • @Ham Dragon: Thanks buddy.. that's my intention.. but I want to know definitely if I need a visit. I was intending to stay most likely in UAE somewhere for anywhere from 12-48 hours, but not sure of the visa implications if any. Thanks again.

Worth mentioning that it seems a lot of airlines do these kinds of programs.
    Emirates: https://www.emirates.com/au/english/before-you-fly/dubai-int…
    Qatar (free): https://www.qatarairways.com/en/hia-hamad-international-airp…
    Qatar (discounted): https://www.qatarairways.com/en/offers/qatar-stopover.html
    Turkish: https://www.turkishairlines.com/en-int/flights/stopover/

I've flown Qatar a couple times but never tried to apply for the free stopover, too suspicious that it won't be free after jumping hoops, and then i'll have to pay out of my own pocket.

With respect to Emirates, please be mindful that their terms and conditions state the fair should be of a certain minimum price to be eligible for Dubai connect. I have been burnt buying a discounted fare and thinking I could get a sleepover in Dubai only to discover that my fare was not eligible. I had to purchase two rooms on each leg of the flight.

Dont count on it, its a scam. Speaking from personal experience.

A god send for those travelling to Europe with kids.

  • I gather the transfer between hotel and airport would be self sponsored?
