Caol Ila 12 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky 700ml $99 (Free Membership Required) + Delivery ($0 C&C/ in-Store) @ Dan Murphy's

380

I am hesitant to post whisky deals with the prices going stupid over the last couple of years (when did Lagavulin 16 become $200+). However, this a reasonable price for a solid Islay whisky if you are that way inclined. This is generally on my on my rotation of bottles on the shelf.
Note: this is a Member price and I have opted for C&C to avoid delivery charges.

Yeah remember when Lagavulin 16 was like $69 on special. Things have gotten nuts. Anyway cheere. Just polished off my Laphroaig.

  • when did Lagavulin 16 become $200+

    a) costs have definitely gone up
    b) they charge $200, people pay $200. So they keep charging $200
    c) bourbon is worse 😬

I agree Bourbon in worse ………. oh, you mean price. ;-)

    • I just bought a 1.75lr bottle of knobs creek for around $80 AUD at Costco Burbank California. All these price increases in aus make no sense to me. Well the bourbon anyways…

Taxes are totally different in the USA and then bulk purchases, etc. No comparison.

        • Taxes was 10%,
I’m just pointing out it’s $115 for a 700ml in aus, so even with aus alco taxes, aus prices are over inflated for some reason. These used to be around $70 a bottle. Doesn’t look like they have gone up too much in the US, someone’s milking demand…

    I still remember Costco with a pallet each of Caol Ila 12 and Lagavulin 8 - $65 a bottle….

  • Back when lag 16 was around $90 I bought the Caol IIa for around the same. Remember it was nowhere in the same league. Total ripoff for $90. Perhaps it's on the money now with inflation.

    • That's when Caol IIa 12yo 1L bottle sold for S$49 in Changi Airport.

    • I wouldn’t go that far - Caol Ila isn’t as smokey as Laga/Laphroig/Ardberg, still a good drop if you want something slightly more approachable.

  • Good deal. Thank you for posting. I've been waiting thirstily for an Islay single malt special.

with coles 20% off Lagavulin is down to like 124 atm. With further 10% off pretty close to this

I have 6 bottles of Lagavulin 16 in the cupboard which I stocked up on when it was around $80. No way would I pay current prices, so only having one per year and having other bottles between. Caol IIa 12yo is OK, but even at this price I'd just wait for Ardbeg 10 to come on sale and get that instead.

I'd highly recommend visiting Islay if you ever get the chance. The scenery is just as much worth the visit as the distilleries. I've been twice (2019 and 2023). I've visited 6 of the distilleries, with the highlight being a Warehouse tasting at Lagavulin with the famous Iain McArthur, who recently retired after 53 years at the distillery.

Ledaig 10 at $90 better value IMO, great whiskey. Tobermory 12 also $82 at my Vic Dan's.

I was at Lagavulin distillery at Islay, Scotland in July 2022, the price was 70 GBP. My point is recommend retail price went up even at distillery.
I bought Lagavulin 16 during lockdown period in 2020 for $70 AUD.
Inflation and price hike sucks for real. :(

    Agree with OPs comments
I used to be an active Whisky deal hunter/poster but now seeing all mad price rises I've lost my appetite, so just having what I have already collected those days.
Good price for this at these times, best I found this was at the Costco deal for around $65 as I recall along with Laga8 for the same price.

  • I only started getting into whisky in the last few years. The prices are extremely high, so only ever buy on special. Disappointed and feel that I’ve missed out on a lot at good prices
