I know I'm sharing a year and a half old phones but the base model S23 still beats the shit out of S24 in terms of SoC (SD vs Exynos). If you don't want to go through eBay or a refurbished route, get it from this deal.

The page says an added trade-in bonus of $100. So essentially like we always do, grab a $1 trade-in to get $100 extra and get charged $30 or $60 when you do not return your trade-in device.

So the final price of the devices with trade-in value/non-return device is:

S23: $779 - $101 + $60 = $738
S23U: $1266.85 - $101 + $60 = $1225.85

Note:
This is for those who do not want to buy an Exynos S24. S23 has a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip which is more power efficient that the current S24's Exynos.

However, the S24 Ultra is better than the S23 Ultra and is worth paying $250 more than S23 Ultra.

        The s24 Exynos has better performance than the s23 Qualcomm.

        Power consumption benchmarks are irrelevant for real world usage, all CPUs are inefficient at 100% load, Exynos more than Qualcomm. The cause is the difference between the 4nm FAB process used by TSMC vs. Samsung.

        The Exynos SOC has more cores than the Qualcomm equivalent chip to effecively compensate for its inferior power consumption, the CPU cores are practically identical between the two chips, both use the same Cortex design.

        In the real world, when the CPU is limited to use no more than 70% of its maximum clockspeed (that is what happens in 'optimised' battery mode), the Exynos can achieve the same or better power consumption by spreading the workload over more, lower clocked cores.

        I wouldn't bother importing an international model s24 to get a Qualcomm phone over a s24 Exynos phone, and I certainly wouldn't prefer a s23 Qualcomm to a s24 Exynos phone, it is inferior in every aspect except power consumption on paper

          I do( 5th year running). I bought S10 plus since it's released. I do use iPhones 8 plus as stand by ( and for international number) and bought it when it was released.

          funny enough, I still have OnePlus One ( First version, where you need invite to buy). everything works perfect except network.( due to old network being not supported anymore). I use it for streaming YouTube and some IP tv.

        If you want to compare S23, compare with S24 which can be bought for $799 vs S23 for $779.

    Looks like they removed mention of the $60 late fee in the fine print at the bottom, assuming they still charge that and won't charge the rest of the bonus credit amount of they don't receive the trade in?

        Less removing that fee and more so charging the $250 bonus credit later on instead. The wording changed a bit so it's a bit confusing now as to what they'll do.

          Yes, it does work. Anything with edu.au at the end will work. You just need to be able to access your kid's email address to click on the link in the account validation email.

    for S24, if you play games and need higher clock speeds - get a snapdragon based ultra.
    For daily use an basic video streaming and browsing, Exynos performs much better.

    check latest benchmark tests from YouTube.

    Too much bashing of Exynos here.

        In that Cybershack article, they do say that the newer SD8 Gen 3 in the S24U is still inferior in rural signal strength compared tot he SD8 Gen 2 in the S23U. So you can't really say in general to go with Qualcomm Snapdragon to get the best signal strength, it is now dependent on the chipset model.

    (Obligatory just stack 69 different discounts and sacrifice your first born to Samsung)

    I nabbed an S23 128gb for about $615 (excluding $30/$60 penalty for no trade in) from the standard store a few weeks back.

    That was when it was $150 off RRP. Now it's $200 off so you can likely beat the price I got if you're mentally willing to jump through Samsung's hoops and have all the first-time codes intact (or have them prepared like I did). For e.g.

    Starts at $1199:
    - $200 off RRP sale ($999)
    - $250 trade-in bonus - $1 trade-in ($748)
    - 5% first-time purchase on the Samsung Shop app ($710.60)
    - $50 newsletter code ($660.60)
    - $100 loyalty code by bothering a sales representative ($560.60)
    + $30 / $60 penalty if applicable ($590.60 / $620.60)

    I can't verify this because I've used my codes but I expect you can still stack everything. Price might vary based on when the 5% applies relative to the other discounts.

    Yep, it's a (profanity) pain in the ass, but at that price, you're doing pretty good.

        Not sure about newsletter codes - I had mine since last year and it still worked at checkout.

        I got the loyalty code the same day I ordered. It took two tries. The first guy said they weren't being given for S23 purchases so I waited a few hours, asked again and got it. Seems to be luck based on who you chat to.

        I don't think the newsletter or loyalty codes work on the education store. Standard store only.

        In my case, I traded in my S10e. It was valued at $40, but there's a section during checkout where you answer questions on the device's condition. If you say it has a cracked screen (whether or not it actually is cracked) it adjusts the trade-in value to $1.

        To anyone unaware, if you don't plan on sending your phone in, you'll want to do this because you pay the trade-in value as a security deposit to Asurion and it's only refunded when they receive your trade-in device.

        Also, the rumour is if your trade-in value is only $1 (and perhaps up to certain threshold), you'll only be charged a $30 late return fee instead of $60. I'll find out if this is true on Monday night which is two weeks from when I got the phone.

I have two phones that can't be traded in so might be safer to pay the non-return fee rather than send one in and have them find non-genuine parts.

    It mostly gets through the day, but by evenings around 8pm or earlier, I will need to charge.

    My favourite Huawei mate 20 pro went through the day no sweat… :(

      I get a good two days but I only spend a couple of hours browsing etc and calls. I never leave Location on and have an Routine to turn off Mobile data when in home/office wifi range. Its only a 3900mAh battery so was never going to be a powerhouse.

      Really? I thought they were supposed to be pretty good. I used to use Mate 20 Pro as well, then moved to an iPhone mini. Battery sucks on this.
      Recently I picked up a S23 Ultra for the great battery, but the size is too much. I sold it, thinking I might look into the base s23

      In the meantime, I fired up the old Mate 20 pro and it's still good. I'm considering just going back to that 6 year old phone

    Last weekend tranferring some photos in Uncle's samsung S10e. Still super fast after all these years. I don't get bashing of Exynos and Samsung UI. If you wanna play games in mobile and chase 1 or 2 extra Fps then Steam Deck make much more sense.

    You can get an S23 from the main Samsung website right now for $714 if you're quick. ($999 base - $100 discount - $250 trade-in mistake + $65 penalty)

    Despite the trade-in bonus being changed from $250 to $100 this week, at checkout, it still applies the $250 bonus by mistake.

        You open a chat window and ask the sales rep for an S23 voucher. They'll either give you a 10% discount, or a $100 voucher. If they refuse to give one, then try again later with a different rep.

    Just got the email for the secret sale on the regular site. the S23 Ultra is $1266. I jumped on the live chat to ask about a voucher and there are none available (only the $100 trade-in bonus which I don't want). You can use the app with 5% off first purchase, bringing it down to $1203.
