Any dvd works, (watch US ones on my PAL one all the time) but the Blu Ray is correct will not play AU/UK blu ray
Be careful here. Australian PS3s will, but US PS3s are a different thing, as the law is different there. The early US PS3 definately DID have DVD region locks, but I can't be sure about the current models.
Final point.. don't get it.
Ths US have different power sockets in the wall. The cable that comes with it won't fit into our power sockets. You can either get a plug adapter or a new cable.
Do the US ps3's have switch powersupplies? would fry the thing they dont
I think you mean switch mode power supply. And (almost) everthing does, the trick is just the voltage range they support. The internet tells me they all have the same (100-240V) power supply, though some models may have different ranges printed on the box. I would be very surprised if it was an issue (I have used a US PS3 here, just not the current model), but you can never be 100% certain.
Yes to compatibility issues:
Australian games will work and you will be able to create and use an Australian PSN account. Note that any US games you get (including in the budle/import) will not work with the Australian PSN account for DLC. You can work around this by importing PSN credit and creating a US PSN account for your US DLC.
