I tried Yakuza on PS but couldn't get into it after about 2 hours. Did i nedd to give it more time?

I've sinked atleast 150 hours into it, so I would say yes haha.

It definitely picks up later on but also if you dislike a lot of dialogue and cutscenes it might not be for you.

      • Maybe this is it. I care more about moment to moment gameplay than story.
        Thanks for the input!

        • I played several of the early ones and never made it past about 45 minutes on any of them. Very inconsistent, very little actual gameplay, sudden spikes in difficulty, long drawn out and boring cut scenes. Maybe the later ones are better but I really tried several times to get into the series and just can't see anything here to like.

@CascadeHush: All of the Yakuza series are very story heavy games, so there is quite a bit of cutscenes and reading the subtitles. If that's not really your thing, you can ty the newer games like Judgement and Like a Dragon lines which have an English voiceover/dub, although it's got a different feeling listening to it in english.

Additionally, its a JRPG so you might find time is better spent in the side quests alongside completing the actual game. These titles definitely aren't for everyone but the story is pretty great.

Also Yakuza 0 is pretty much an hour of cutscenes to start off with so that tends to shift a lot of peoples perception to the games.

Which of the indies are worth playing on this one?

I need to claim a few years worth of keys. I’m still on that OG grandfathered subscription. Probably have some doubles with all these launcher freebies too.

Never had humble before. How fast can I get out of it if I sign up? I imagine it's not easy, or people would be buying only individual months when they felt like it

    • +5

You can cancel anytime on the website it's very easy

Just sharing my experience, but I've now twice had them charge me after I confirmed a pause/skip month. Their customer service is pretty good about issuing refunds, but it's a bit of a nuisance and you will need to keep on top of it.

OP this is the May bundle not April. I definitely wouldn't say it's one of the best ever either; two headliners that have been on gamepass for months and a bunch of pretty meh looking indies. Steelrising is new to bundles here though and is probably the standout for me, but if you don't have gamepass Yakuza is a lot of game for your money!

    • Yeah If you have gamepass it's not nearly as good but if a bundle came out with persona 3 reload in it would it automatically not be a great deal because it's on gamepass?

      • Not disagreeing at all, was just saying its far from the best of bundles they've run. My general metric for that (besides the quality of the games of course) is whether they're 1) new to bundles or 2) been giveaways or 3) on gamepass. April was way better in this regard as Humankind, Callisto and Victoria 3 were all first time bundles and from memory only Humankind had been on gamepass for PC, plus the indie fillers were much higher quality.

Appreciate it's largely the business model these days but there's an unfortunate trend of humble's choice games often just being epic giveaways or on subscription services, which diminishes the perceived value for some folks.

If you're not on subs or miss the epic/amazon giveaways though Choice is of course a great value bundle at roughly $2-3 a game!

Why pay for Gamepass every single month when this is a one off payment to own the games? Don't get me wrong I think Gamepass is good (used to be great) but I rather own my games, especially when it will take me a lot more time than a month to finish them.

R.I.P Tango, you didn't deserve this.

Hi-Fi Rush is my game of the year 2023.
    Had such a great time.
    RIP Tango.

  • This might be an unpopular opinion, but after watching the trailer for Yakuza, I have to say it sounds terrible dubbed in English. It's subjective of course, but I feel its lacking it's soul without the Japanese voices (I'm sure you can change it). Just something I noted as I watched it.

    • I find all english dubs suck from japanese, it loses alot of meaning, and there is also no direct translation for alot of what they say.

    • Yeah, it definitely feels jarring and almost with a different energy especially if you've played the prior games. I can see why they need it though especially because of how many people are turned off by long cutscenes just reading subtitles.

Sucks that this bundle comes out right as we learn Tango Gameworks who developed Hi-Fi Rush is being shuttered. Still a very good bundle, but very unfortunate (yet likely very deliberate) timing.

  • A far better month than April considering the quality on offer here.

But it is rather sad to see Hi-Fi Rush on here as Tango Gameworks has closed down.

Hi-fi Rush along is worth the price

Sell since nobody mentioned it, I'm going to shout out Steelrising which I think is excellent, I played though it and then immediatly played the new game+ (on PS5). Very approachable soulslike but not too easy. I have no idea why it didn't do better, since the concept of a French revolution timelike with automata seemed really cool to me. Apparently the critics said the combat was mid but I really don't understand what that even means. It has a cool elemental system which is completely optional if you don't like that kind of thing but is great fun when you make a build that all works together. I really didn't understand that fully until I was near the end of my first playthrough and actually found the NG+ easier because I actually knew what I was doing second time around even though the difficulty setting was higher.

It's now part of the PS Extra collection too.

  • Just got this and loaded up Hi-Fi Rush on my Steam Deck OLED. Phenomenal game, and runs like a dream at a locked 60fps. This bundle is well worth the price just for this game alone.

  • Anyone want to swap referral links? I’m considering getting but I’m not really sure.
