[QLD] Queensland Households Will Get $1,000 off Their Electricity Bills in 2024–25 @ Queensland Cost of Living Rebate

3471

Queensland households will get $1,000 off their electricity bills in 2024–25.

$1,000 will be automatically credited to eligible residential customer bills from 1 July 2024—there is no need to apply. Exact timing will depend on individual billing cycles.

To be eligible, residential customers must have an electricity account with their electricity retailer or embedded network provider on 1 July 2024 and be separately metered and charged for their own electricity consumption.

Look for the ‘Queensland Government Cost of Living Rebate’ on your bill.

                  • @daanish: Hopefully it all goes well.

                    • @georgegates5: AGL have advised that they won't pay the credit until after I have closed the account and the final bill has been issued. So I guess I'm signing up somewhere else first and going about it that way.

  • Has any one changed energy providers since 1 July to see if the rebate credit is paid in cash, transferred to the new provider or forfeited?

    • Following as well.

    • I'm going down the path of requesting AGL to pay out my credit before I transfer my service to another provider. I'd rather have the cash in hand than risk it screwing it up after my account is closed.

      • I requested they pay out my credit but said they would only do so if I met one of the following.

You are finalising your account and will no longer hold any active account with Ergon Energy Retail and your account is in credit
You have solar and are regularly in credit. In this case you are eligible for a full refund, inclusive of the rebates. This is included as part of your annual solar refund.
You have an active Direct Debit that results in your bills being regularly in credit.

See my comment above. AGL wouldn't pay out my credit for similar reasons so I've opened an account with a cheaper provider and once my final AGL bill is issued they'll refund me the remaining credit. Just waiting for the changeover to happen now.

          • @daanish: did you get the refund?

            • @Poor Ass: I haven't properly swapped over to another provider yet. I've been waiting for an official meter read to take place so that I can be churned across. That should have happened last week so the final bill should be due soon and then I can request it.

              • @daanish: no 4g reading?

                • @Poor Ass: No. Old school dumb meter.

                  • @daanish: surely you can ask the retailer to upgrade ya one

it's so good I can get energex readings every 5 minutes and helps me with budgeting

                    8c a Kw!

  • Has anyone changed their electricity accounts since the credit is received to see if it triggers a refund of the credit balance? At my rate the credit won’t be used for a year or two and I am tempted to move to another provider but don’t want to lose the credit.

    • Do it and let us know

  • My mother just settled for a new property in QLD this month and connected her apartment to an electricity provider. Is she still eligible for the following:

    $1000 rebate
    $300 rebate
$372 seniors rebate (assuming she qualifies)

Did you need to be an existing customer of an electricity provider at the time the rebates were announced, or would she still qualify for all the above? This deal is marked as expired so I'm not sure? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/845909
