AWA 22" (55cm) Full HD LCD TV with DVD Player $150 - Big W Watergardens

170

Was in Big W Watergardens today and they had a table full of cheap TV's for sale. The one I picked up was a 55cm Full HD LCD TV with DVD player integrated, also with USB to play other media for $150. Marked down from $298. They had a number of different TV's for this price including a AWA 60cm (no DVD) Sanyo 55cm LCD/LED. They also had smaller 18 inch TV's (AWA, Barbie branded amongst others all at $98)

Not sure if just Watergardens or everywhere else.

  • Last week Harvey Norman did the TCL 32" TV for $197

That was nowhere NEAR as good as deal as this. So why bother mentioning it?

      • 32" is not as good as 22"?

TCL is big China brand and AWA= no name brand.

Do you know what are you talking about?

        • I misread the OP as 55", the same as others have mentioned below.

Checking now, I really look silly!

But the title HAS now been revised (by foobar), it used to say

AWA 55cm Full HD LCD TV with DVD Player $150 - Big W Watergardens

          http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/84389/revisions#160576vs160…

Anyway, it was my mistake but I cannot edit it now.

As for brands, both of them are Chinese no-name.

        • Decent of you to man-up to your mistake; that said, Chinese =/= no-name.

Superforever is talking about TCL, which is a tier 1 brand in China.

        • All boils down to made in China cheap bad quality control disposable electronics.

A lot of big Japanese brands also made in China and BTW TCL made TV parts for other big brand.

Lenovo also made in China and it is no. 1 laptop manufacturer in the world now. You are still stay in 20 year ago.

      • My comment above was due to misreading the original title of this deal.

I cannot retract or edit it, but it was a mistake.

  • I am not 100% sure but I suspect that this is the same TV, rebranded.

If it is the same: I am a Former DS employee - the thing had a great picture but DVD drive quality was below average.

    For $150 it's pretty good.

    • all so former DS employee dicksmith DVD was number one problem with them.

Me too at first I thought it is 55" too :p

Because it is ozbargain we expected too much.

      • For that price I'd go right now & put a house brick thru the window to get it & leave the cash…ok, no cash but a nicely worded I.O.U. :p

  • I bought the Sanyo 55 cm LED when it was first introduced. The only other LED backlit 1080 screen TV available at the time in that size was a Teac. The Sanyo is a genuinely decent little set and amazing if you can get it for 150 bucks. I remember fiddling around with the screen settings on just about all of the sets mentioned above and if you don't need the inbuilt dvd player is easily the pick of them picture-quality wise.
Interesting little quirk of the Sanyo is that it has a composite video and audio output. Might come in handy for someone looking to feed an old VCR or analogue tuner hard drive dvd recorder - or indeed an old cathode ray in an adjoining room. In any case - not long 'til the analogue signal gets turned off. Supposedly.

  • Isn't http://www.bigw.com.au/electronics/televisions/led-tv/bpnBIG… the same one? Looks like it, but $28 difference…

    • Different stand and bezel, so not the same as the Sanyo. Incidentally, I remember when looking at the AWA sets at the time that a Bush branded set on runout was identical to one of the AWA models. No doubt badge-engineered in a factory that manufactures alot of el cheapo brands around the world. Sanyo is owned by Panasonic and irrespective of whether manufacture is well and truly outsourced elsewhere, the 55cm LED I bought had a better screen, plastics etc. I haven't seen the AWA in your link. A more recent release. Could be good, bad or indifferent. I certainly wouldn't buy online before seeing it in the flesh.
