  • I get the novelty but that's where it ends for me.

I used to agree with that perspective, however wife got one recently despite my grumbling and it's actually been good!

The big thing for us is that we don't drink a 1.5L bottle in a day and normal purchased soft drink seems to go flat so quickly. End up wasting half of it.

So…. I don't really use the big Sodastream bottles much for the same reasons as above, but the 500ml single serves are great! Never flat because I drink it in a single sitting and I can keep a few flavours at hand depending on my mood.

Still working out what flavours are the best tho, but will grab a few more on this sale I think.

      • Adding on to that. I mostly use it for the sugar free flavours and only really use half the recommended syrup serving size. If I did the same with real bottles and cans I’d have to be mixing it with soda water to get the same effect.

        • We do sugar free too, which ones in that list are?

*edit silly me obviously the Zeros…

@bobwokeup: Yeah. Zero and Pepsi max. There’s also a zero sugar Fanta and solo brand but they’re more expensive and not on sale right now

        • +1

Do they use sucralose? Do you have any concern over the health issues relating to possible gut inflammation and increased risk of obesity and diabetes? I'd just go natural sugar..

@turtlesinmypants: Lol, people don't get obese drinking zero/low cal drinks.

There's some evidence that it can upset your gut mircobiome, but you'd have to be taking in a crap load of sweetners for that to happen.

Having said that, the suggested serving amounts for these are way too much I find. The Schweppes syrups suggests a bottle makes 3.3L, while I find I get about 10x more than that from one. No way I could drink them at the suggested dose.

          • @turtlesinmypants: I’m going sugar free to reduce obesity. Going natural sugar would do the opposite

Isn't it much cheaper than buying soft drink bottles from the supermarket?

I stopped buying Sodastream based on their prior association with the IDF

    • Ok

      Nice!

    • -2

Funny you should say that cuz I’m using the product exactly because of that

    • -5

I only started buying sodastream to support it

      • They predominantly employ Palestinians anyway. Its now a American owned Pepsi subsidiary anyway.

    • +1

Wait. You meant international diabetes federation, right?

Peach ice tea, in still water taste identical to the original bottles

  • Curious do they even taste like the real thing?

    • Depends on your thoughts of post mix fountains at pubs/fast food places etc. if you’re the “I only drink out of a can” type of person then it’s probably not worth it.

Spoon of lemon lime bitters, squeeze of an orange and bourbon (over ice). No soda stream required.

    • +1

      That’s an odd Pepsi recipe

      • Yeah nah ..got nothing for the Pepsi, but …the lemon lime bitters over bourbon is the go, and regularly the same discounted price.

        • 👍 sounds tasty. Shame I’ve been alcohol free since 22. I’ll stick with the soft drink versions

  • I think drinking SodaStream tricks your brain a bit thinking its healthy or healthier because its "homemade". If you drink more soda as a result its a net loss.

    • Or should I say net GAIN

  • Thanks OP. Can keep my sugar fountain flowing.
