Reporting ATM Free Withdrawal in Bali

Hi all, I just got back from my first trip in Bali. While there I used my UP card all the time.
I could withdraw money from Mandiri totally free. You can withdraw $200 worth already at the airport. I tried another bank (I can’t remember the name) and they warned there was a fee (I think about $5 to withdraw $300 so pretty hefty but I needed cash so I had to pay) If you use UP at Mandiri there are 0 fees and that’s going to save you to bring cash, negotiate etc. I also tapped often and again no charges.

    Plenty of other options than UP.
    I'm with ING … Which has $0 international withdrawal fees - for my specific a/c.

    Can confirm …. Most ATM's have a screen - which says you will be charged $X for this withdrawal … So nothing new there.

    But ING then refund said fee back to your a/c.

    Struggling to grasp OP's post … Other than spruiking UP ???

        Yes they have, also you need to move in money and do 5 local transactions. Because of that I just use UP or Suncorp now.

      ING now only refunds their own foreign transaction fee for ATMs. That, and it's limited to 5 fee attracting transactions in a month.

      If the foreign ATM puts a fee of their own on top, then that will no longer get reimbursed.

      @simplystu I just posted to help people. I’m not associated with any banks. In the past I used Ing too but they scrapped the free overseas ATM a few months ago. I just wasn’t sure about the fees other banks charge, good tip about ATM always telling you.
      I also have a Suncorp (which gives free overseas transactions), but since Up worked I didn’t bother. They also immediately send message about transactions so safer.

      My friends go to Bali all the time and they bring cash and exchange locally, which seems painful. I am just posting so people are aware. It could well be that also Suncorp and other cards make you withdraw for free, but I’m just writing about my experience.

    Can anyone confirm this? Cause this is a pretty good perk.
    ING USED to refund both charges but now only refund their own charge. (5 times, then you cop both charges)

      I can confirm, just got back! I took money out at least 10 times. I only used Mandiri because it worked the first time. I will upload a screenshot.

        Please do. Although in my experience ATM fees charged by the ATM are normally bundled into the charge, not separate.
        So unless UP adds a refund tag, I'll have to take your word.

    How about Citi (now Nab) debit card?
    Should be no fees as well?

    Trip to bali 2 months ago and withdrew with the NAB debit card (forced change from Citibank Debit) from several different atms without any additional charge.
    BRI and BNI were some of the ones used.

      So no withdraw fees from the international bank and NAB? But what about other fees like fx?

        Thanks for the context. Thought it may have been a Shopping Centre or hotel with a “free” ATM.

    Used HSBC everyday global and didnt get charged with any ATM fees, was in Bali last months
