  • Should go well with my new Aerobie Aeropress. Thanks

    Normal price is quite expensive?

    • +1

All the more reason to claim the free sample and see if it's worth it or not.

    • +2

You weren't kidding! $56-$60 per Kilo! I don't think they are aiming for the OzBargain crowd to be honest.

      • A few months ago I bought my first coffee machine and grinder. I've tried organic coffee from Peru, IKEA coffee (UTZ certified), and a few other brands. In a latte they all taste pretty much the same to me. Right now I'm drinking Chicco D'oro that I found for $8.80/kg at Woolworths one day.

It would take a lot of convincing to get me to pay $60/kg for coffee beans.

  • Thanks OP! Just sent the site an email :)

  • Good find OP, definitely willing to give some new beans a try.

  • Nice work!

  • Nice find-thanks!

  • The postman is going to think I've scammed a whole lot of people…

  • +2

Damn I paid $2 for a 75g free sample from that other place. I feel ripped off now.

  • Page does not exist..

  • Thank you. You are so nice. (Thumb up)

    Hi there,

Thanks for your interest in Jetty Lane Coffee Co.!

We've had an overwhelming response to our free sample offer, with more than 2000 people requesting samples since the site was launched earlier today.

Unfortunately, as a small business we're unable to provide this many samples free of charge, however we are happy to offer you a discount across the full range of Jetty Lane Coffee Co. blends.

Simply enter the discount code 'launch10' during checkout to enjoy 10% off all products at www.jettylanecoffeeco.com.au.

    Thanks for your support!

    • Got that email aswell… looks like it's been ozbargained.

    • +1

      Ozbargained for sure.

    • Yeah, I got the same response. This small business officially ozbargained.

  • +2

I guess if you are a new company, offer free samples, get an "unreasonable" response and then pull your offer. In the mean time you have gained a market audience.

  • how big is 75g?

    • +2

half as much as a third of a pound (roughly)

      • Nice

    • 75g of ground coffee is about 0.001125 cubic metres.
      You're welcome.

What the hell, I sent them my details within minutes of this deal being posted, and now I get an email saying they have had too many people request samples and that they'll give me a 10% discount instead. So they now have my email on their mailing list and they aren't even sending me samples. And 10%…really?
Interested to see how many people also get turned down, have a feeling they had a VERY limited number of samples.

I want to revoke my positive vote.

    • +3

The technical term is "bait & switch". Should you get emails from them, be sure to hit the Spam button on your favourite email program. That way even legimitate customers are more unlikely to get their emails in future.

      • +1

Pure bait n switch for sure. If they've had time to construct a switch email, then they've had time to remove the bait.

Allow me to neg on behalf of all those who got scammed.

    • +1

Revoke your vote by clicking the votes button just above the OPs name on the listing.

      • You learn something everyday! Thanks.

    • +2

Got turned down too. Emailed within 2 mins of it going up. Think they're rejecting everybody.

  • +1

Wondering if they will still send samples out to early emailers or whether this is a bulk rejection…

  • +5

    Neg for scummy marketing.

    • +2

Come on man, it's not clear that these guys have engaged in scummy marketing. We need to wait for the facts to emerge before we pass judgement.

I call for a Royal OzBargain Inquest into the legitimacy of this deal; in particular, the availability of said product samples.

      I nominate myself lawyer man!

    • +1

It's not scummy marketing, it's scummy people like you who most likely just expect free stuff from a small start up business without the intention of ever going back.

      It's clear ~1000 people put orders through. That's 75g x 1000 = 75kg. Going at a good price of $21 per kg: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/69454 - It would have lost them over $1500.

That's not even including postage, packaging and other factors such as having to spend an entire week (~150) orders through per day processing this extremely large number of requests.

A small business can't handle this, they didn't put the deal on ozbargain themselves, they would have placed it on the website based on their server logs of number of people who visit their website. Clearly not 1000+ per day.

      • Not expecting but if your gonna offer it then you better well give it.

        • Hi there,

Thanks for your interest in Jetty Lane Coffee Co.

I wanted to let you know that we'll be posting the free sample you've requested tomorrow morning.

We're a brand new company and sent our website live over the weekend, with a genuine free sample offer available at www.jettylanecoffeeco.com.au. We haven't marketed the website at all, so we expected a small and manageable number of sample requests and perhaps none at all!

We did not post an offer to ozbargain.com.au or any other free sample websites, and still have no idea who decided to share this information. We were horrified to discover that we were getting emails from hundreds of people each hour - as a new small business we're only able to provide a small number of samples free of charge.

As one of the first people we got an email from, we're excited to be sending you a sample. Please try our beans, and if you love them, like us on facebook. You can also enjoy a 20% discount on all our products when you place an order before 30 November - simply enter the discount code 'sample20' during checkout.

Thanks for your understanding and we hope you enjoy our coffee!

Chris @ Jetty Lane Coffee Co.

I told you this was the case.

  • I'm yet to receive a cancellation email, so I'll hold judgement on them just yet.

  • "It's not scummy marketing, it's scummy people like you who most likely just expect free stuff from a small start up business without the intention of ever going back."

It's not our fault they offered free coffee on the internet, and members are not scummy for expecting that offer to be honoured. While it is understandable they have a limit, their prices are very high, and a mere 10% discount for people exceeding that limit means they are wasting an opportunity to attract many discriminating coffee drinkers.

  • +2

I sent a response to their cancellation email and I get the feeling they don't know the Internet as opposed to a deliberate bait and switch. I think it's the first day they had a web page, probably won't be making that offer again.

Lets face it, we're seagulls and they didn't know what to expect when they threw some chips.

    • +1

The person has a very good rep on Ebay. 100% rep, w/ 154x votes. They probably were not ready to be Ozbargained.

  • Marked their email as spam on Gmail.

Encourage others to do the same. :-)

Had the same email, looking forward to a nice coffee. Thanks

  • 50g of beans arrived today. I requested "espresso grind" expecting ground coffee, but got espresso blend beans!
