I was wondering if anyone could give me any information regarding the scrap copper value of one of those old hot water systems, which were the norm for most homes up until the early 80's.
They were the rather large copper tanks in the roof cavity - I'm unsure if there is a name for this type of unit, but I'm most keen to know the approximate value of scrap copper, with the current price being 7–10 dollars per kilo.
Your input would be greatly appreciated ;)
Cheers, Darin.
እሱ፣ ዳሪን! Those old hot water systems you're referring to are commonly known as "copper hot water cylinders" or simply "copper cylinders." They were indeed widely used in homes up until the 1980s.
The value of scrap copper fluctuates based on market conditions, but as of my last update, it was indeed in the range of $7 to $10 per kilogram. The exact value you'd get for scrapping an old copper cylinder would depend on its size and weight. Generally, larger cylinders will fetch more money due to their higher copper content.
Before scrapping it, you might want to consider whether it has any historical or collectible value, especially if it's from a particularly old or rare system. In some cases, collectors or enthusiasts might be interested, and you could potentially get more for it than just the scrap value.
