I have few atomic sync/radios sync watches. I sync them using JJY simulator which you can download it from Apple/Google play store. It’s not straight forward but it will get the job done. I don’t sync them often, probably every 3 to 6 months as they are hardly off (couple of secs) even if you don’t sync for a year or two.
By saying, especially my citizen (nearly 10yrs old) watch sync automatically once every 3 to 9 weeks(I am in Victoria)
First, I thought it’s a glitch in the watch. As the time was accurate, I didn’t worry much, but after couple of years I started wondering how on earth my citizen watch is syncing. Whilst visiting Japan, I visited Citizen service in Adachi city and I explained them the issue with my watch and I was told that during specific weather pattern, the signal can be accessed in remote parts of the world. When I enquired about why my other watches don’t pick signal buy only citizen watch, I was advised that it depended on the induvial watch antenna make, setup and antenna attenuation.
Thanks to the ionosphere and radio propagation amazing things can happen.
