oh hell yeah, will load up today or tomorrow if i can find stock.
I bet my local woolies will be sold out as always whenever this deal is up.

      • +1

The steaks went on sale 2 days ago, the burger discount just went live this afternoon.

  • +2

I feel like these haven't been on 1/2 price in ages! Will grab a couple of packs to keep in the freezer.

    • i havent been checking woolies, but yes definitely has been ages since ive seen them 1/2 price at coles.
there was 2 times in last 8 weeks i think where it was about $3 off (which i think is not terrible i guess)

      • +1

Yeah any time I've seen them discounted it's a couple of dollars here or there but happy to see it 1/2 price this week, hope it's not a massive gap until they do it again!

        • For some reason, these were regularly on sale at $7 stocked at Colesworth.
Then after there was a period where I noticed Woolies promoting that they 'officially' stock this and after that it never came down to below $10.
It was weird because it was all over OB whenever it went half price….

    • +2

Based on that logic, we should never buy these unless they are free..half price is pretty good.

  • +6

I paid full price for these last week because they are so good, and it was still cheaper than KFC. Really decent done in the air fryer.

    • +1

yep i have also paid full price a few times, against the usual ozbargainer guidelines but not even mad.

    • +2

I paid full price for these last week because they are so good

      Which ones?

  • +1

Will be stocking up on these, thanks OP

Packed in NZ using imported mystery chicken though.

It says on the front of the packet “New Zealand raised Cage Free” with the picture of the chicken. The spices etc would be the imported ingredients.

      • +1

with the picture of the chicken

So each packet has photos of the chicken that is inside?

That would put me off my food I think…

        • +3

You could choose the cutest, or ugliest chook, depending on your preference.

        • +2

Yes it does. They do a professional photo shoot at the factory before…you know. You gotta eat ‘em all, like Pokémon.

        • Don't encourage PETA

      • Ah ok my bad then. I read on the back I think ingredients from multiple origins but if its NZ chicken I'm down with it.

    • Suprised NZ needs to import Chicken good

  • Not that these are not Vegan.

    Both varieties contain egg

    • Which came first though, the chicken or the egg?

      • +7

The egg came first. Let me explain: Eggs, in a general sense, existed before chickens did. The oldest fossils of dinosaur eggs and embryos date back approximately 190 million years, while Archaeopteryx fossils, which are the oldest generally accepted as birds, are around 150 million years old. This means that birds, in general, came after eggs in general¹[3].

However, if we delve deeper into the specifics, the egg that contained the first chicken was laid by a bird that was not a chicken. The chick in that egg (which became the first chicken) was either a mutation or a hybrid of the bird species that laid it. So, in this context, we can confidently say that the egg came first²[4]. 🐣🥚

TLDR; The egg came first but it wasn't laid by a chicken.

An actual informative JV post. Now I've seen it all.

  • how do these compare to the Take Outs Louisiana Style Burger.. they never go half price

    • +4

Worse, this one is formed meat like nuggets. Not sure about the grilled one

      • +5

grilled one is the same formed meat. Not a fan of these.

    • +6

Remember when Louisiana Style Burgers were 1/2 price every 2nd week @ Woolies! Those were the good ol days.

KFC burgers @ home for peanuts

  • +5

as some have mentioned this are not as good as the Louisiana style ones, these are formed meat. The Louisiana style hasn't been on 1/2 price for a LONG time, possibly 12 months or more easily (although I managed to nab a bag for half price about a month ago as they had put them in the wrong spot (for these ones 1/2 price), so I grabbed a bag thinking FINALLY 1/2 price….scanned full price, they ended up giving me 1/2 price as they had put them in the wrong spot….winning.

  • Even though it's formed meat I'm finding the burgers nicer to eat than the typical "pieces" ones.

Like in the context of when I make either of them I'm basically in "lazy dinner" mode so probably don't care that it is formed meat for the purpose…

Only 54% of chicken so barely around 250g. And it doesn't say what of chicken, most probably processed 💩 from chicken 🎱🐾 etc. Eh.

    • Chicken balls? Here I was thinking they were only for roosters

  • +4

After I had these today I met my favourite Pokemon Squirtle.

Rough Arvo, must have been bad batch as never had issue before.

    • user name checks out

      2stroksmokr use hydro cannon!

      • Haha thanks fellas, that was a solid 6 hours of solid Pokemon time. FML.

Nevertheless they are ok, can't beat the zinger ones though.

  • +1

Love these thanks op! The burgers are really great.

  • Tried these last month and was very impressed. Much better than the chicken burgers from Maccas or KFC IMO.

  • Can’t even find any of this in my 3 local Woolworths Tegel Take Outs Flame Grilled Chicken Steaks 😭😭😭😭😭

  • +1

Add a bit of bacon and cheese, It will beat any kfc burger when in the air fryer

  • +2

    54% chicken…. Good thing it's 50% off I guess

  • +1

These are perfectly fine tasting at $6.50, but I would never pay $13. It's basically chicken sponge. Cut it in half and see.

    • +1

Yeah it's a bit like cheap hams injected with salt water, but with these I think they must inject it with a oil

  • +9

100+ votes for processed chicken thats still more expensive than just buying actual chicken breasts
    Lol

    • -1

Barely more expensive. Besides, it's the convenience factor - bung em in the oven/air fryer and you're done. What are you gonna do with plain chicken breasts? You're still gonna need to season/marinade 'em which is an additional cost (and effort).

      • -1

        Do what you want bruh

  • +1

Any of the Tegel products in the purple bags are not the real deal. They're not bad, but the other ones are so much better.

  • For some reason I could not check the stocks in stores from online unless they are all out of stock everywhere :|

  • Hopefully aldi sell tegel soon.

    At least costco do.

    • Aldi has a couple of similar products wouldn't be surprised if it's just a relabel

  • +1

Old boiler roosters crumbed and ready for the fryer no thank you

  • +2

These are terrible compared to the fillet ones from Costco. Just tried them (in the airfryer) for the first time and the grilled chicken steaks taste like a watery chicken nugget.

  • +1

    thanks OP!

  • My local Woolies didn't even have the half-price tag on these.. Was ready to raise hell, but they scanned at the correct price at the check-out, so happy ending.

  • "Produced and packed in New Zealand using ingredients from multiple origins".
    LOL, no thanks!
