  • Sorry to say, but the words 'Sydney' and 'cheap' don't often go together…

Some of the best things in Sydney are free or cheap.
      - National Parks
      - Coastal and harbour walks
      - Ferries
      - Art Galleries (AGNSW, MCA)
      - Australian Museum
      - Visiting some of the middle/outer suburbs to try authentic food from around the world
      etc

I would have thought the first 3 are part of what makes Sydney rather unique?

There's a town just outside of Sydney, 1,372km away, called Adelaide that has a lot of cheap restaurants and stuff.

Canberra is bit closer with lots of free museums/galleries/castel to visit.

      • Canberra is expensive food and stay…

Visit national parks, go on coastal walks, visit different suburbs and walk around, maybe check out a restaurant.

  • If you're like my family and love the outdoors and can walk a lot:

    • Ferry from Circular Quay to Manly - walk to the beach, grab some fish and chips, go for a swim, walk back to the ferry.
    • Walks along the coast between the Northern beaches or Eastern beaches - there are great views.
    • Blue Mountains walks - can catch train there.
    • Walk around Sydney Harbour/Botanical Gardens or Mosman side.
    • Any section or all of the Manly to Bondi walk is fantastic.

A bit harder to access are National Parks - e.g. if you can drive to West Head, there are great views and walks.

The Australian Museum is free and has some good exhibits, and you might be able to catch the Ramses paid exhibit.
