Sorry to say, but the words 'Sydney' and 'cheap' don't often go together…
Some of the best things in Sydney are free or cheap.
- National Parks
- Coastal and harbour walks
- Ferries
- Art Galleries (AGNSW, MCA)
- Australian Museum
- Visiting some of the middle/outer suburbs to try authentic food from around the world
etc
I would have thought the first 3 are part of what makes Sydney rather unique?
Ooo mca! Thanks!
Ferry on the harbour
Picnic in the park
Train to the blue mountains
Walk around the heads
Lunch in Chinatown
Thank you!
There's a town just outside of Sydney, 1,372km away, called Adelaide that has a lot of cheap restaurants and stuff.
Canberra is bit closer with lots of free museums/galleries/castel to visit.
Canberra is expensive food and stay…
Visit national parks, go on coastal walks, visit different suburbs and walk around, maybe check out a restaurant.
Thanks!
If you're like my family and love the outdoors and can walk a lot:
A bit harder to access are National Parks - e.g. if you can drive to West Head, there are great views and walks.
The Australian Museum is free and has some good exhibits, and you might be able to catch the Ramses paid exhibit.

Bunnings organises events sometimes and also check out your local library.
+1 For the Bunnings sausage sizzle.
