Carsales.com.au 'login for price' on all ads?

Just a question if this is happening to anyone else.
As of a week or two ago, when I search on carsales.com.au it no longer displays prices, it says 'Login for price' where the price normally is. The funny thing is if I leave it for a day the prices will display, but if I start filtering too much it comes back, then stays there for some period of time. Almost like they are blocking prices for people who use the site too much. If so that sounds like a crazy move.
This happens on both the website on PC or through the app.

Yes, had this happen earlier in the year too. After a while it fixed itself but has a "Verifying the Device" screen every time go to the site. Guessing they've blocked ranges of VPNs and IPs for some reason or other. Plenty complaints online.

I'm not even using a VPN or anything, just plain old Telstra. It makes the site unusable since you can't see the prices for anything.

      • add a minimum price to your price range search.

They want to boost their active users numbers.

It's smart really, gets people to make accounts. OZB should do the same, "log in to see the deal price and URL".

Or they go elsewhere, which isn't smart.

        • Maybe X amount of people who do get an account because of it are worth more than X + Y people who would just look at the price without signing up.

  • They learn from the hotel industry.
Airbnb already started trials to srew its customers.

They're doing it so they can make more money farming data of users. Once you login then all the limits lift but if you're an anonymous user form their perspective you're getting car info for free. They attempted to force logins on the iOS app a while ago but dropped that like a hot potato.
This and the device verifications has ruined the site, I buy and sell cars relatively frequently and Carsales now has an infruriating user experience.
Huge gap in the market for another provider to provide a great car listing site.

    • Carsales now has an infruriating user experience.

You should see how much they gouge dealers for using them, and they just keep offering more services, and more ways to get money

  • Yes, happening for me even when logged in the past few days. Have to cycle through VPN locations. After a few searches it hides the prices again.

  • Yes happening to me on the PC but not the mobile. Can't explain it

  • Just use a disposable or junk address and phone number.

  • Can you just use incognito mode to have it show every time? I'm always logged in anyways so have never experienced your situation.

Incognito didn't work for me. It worked for the first search but then reverted back to 'login for price'.
