I like not being smart. Just plug in your chosen device via hdmi.

  • I kind of wondering when the deal will come back.

  • +1

Ooh it has an old school RCA connection… nice.

    • +3

Most TVs still have composite video input, the problem is getting one with component (which I'm please to see this does have.)

    • +27

There's nothing wrong with wanting your TV to not suddenly become e-waste from a software update or a $10 SoC dying. Smart TVs are nothing but planned obsolescence.

    • +7

wtf are you smoking. this is exactly what i'm looking for to put in the bedroom to go with a chromecast.

    • +12

think about banning Elon Mask / Tesla from existence.

      Let me guess - it's Biden's fault?

      • +2

        Thanks Obama.

    • +14

Quite the opposite. It's more typically the less savvy 'normies' who tend to use 'built in smarts' of products, and whinge when the feature is missing, rather than build a high end tech solution.

These are for people who own gaming consoles, NVIDIA Shields, Chromecast\GoogleTV, AppleTV, HTPC's, Android sticks, Home Theatre recievers, and other equipment that can already fulfil the role more effectively than a built in SOC on a TV.

    • +1

The Venn diagram of those people is two separate circles.

    • +2

I would choose a non-smart tv everyday of the week and plug in a chromecast. I have had more problems with my smart tvs than I've had with my non-smart tv

  • +1

Still enjoying mine (pick up) in the spare room, friend got his delivered & had a line out of the box, ended up getting a refund instead of replacement due to it not being compatible with their PS5 (which didn't make sense, nor could I be bothered questioning further).

    • what do you mean by 'line out of the box"?

Also, I suspect this model compatible with PS5, right?

      • +1

It won't do 120Hz VRR, but otherwise yeah can't see why not

        • My $1500 Sony and hisense don't even have VRR so this definitely will not 😂😂

      • +2

I think they're referring to a line of dead pixels.

  • +2

Love the non-smart aspect. Does anyone have any reviews for the picture quality? Only need something decent, not a expert but don't want it to feel too cheap when watching streaming things

    • +3

It's perfect for the size & price, picture & sound is decent also.
      Coming from 55in 1080P Panasonic Neo Plasma (Japan), Sony 4K KD65X9000H & chep 50/55in Eko 4K Android/LG OS panels.

      • +4

Wow, if you're rating it as good, and you're moving from a Plasma, that's high praise.

Plasma (vs LCD) was the better image all around, with the exception of brightness; so thats good to hear!

      • +1

Are you sure the sound is ok? I have a 40" Soniq LCD TV in my bedroom. The sound is quite flat, but I usually use it with wireless headphones, so it didn't matter very much. How does the sound compare to your Panasonic and Sony TV?

Like you, I am still rocking my 55inch LG Plasma TV, but I think it is on its way out, it is giving me ghosting intermittently.

        • +1

I think just be mindful that any TV that's thin and under 1k will have very subpar sound. Spend $100-200 on an OzBargain sound bar and your experience with the audio will be night and day imo

        • The sound is not great tbh. My only complaint. It's fine for everyday watching but definitely not great for movies.

      • +1

This actually makes me think to donate my 1080p sony bravia now…

  • This might be a good idea for my exercise room, I already have a chrome cast… might look into reviews of it!

  • I can't see delivery, only pickup, is that right?

    • Shipping is free; it asks for my address in the checkout page.

    • If you don't have a listed postcode then it is pickup only.

  • +3

Response time, not so great, refresh rate, not so great, but the price is awesome, I doubt you would have any regrets buying this unless you were trying to do serious gaming or didn't drink enough to notice the blur in sports.

  • +1

Hey Mr Soniq, no mention I can find on your website of where the ' free Qld delivery postcodes' are , website only says 'pickup' and no answer so far from the online sales enquiry form. Website wants credit card details etc prior to giving freight (or not) details and I'm not too keen on being pinged a heap for freight when I move to the next screen.

    • It only includes the postcodes in the description above. Any other postcode and it only shows pickup.

  • +1

Its "rare" to see "Non-Smart" 4K TV these days
but I believe a cheap firestick or google TV will make it "Smarter" LOL
    great value for the price!

  • Delivery on the original deal killed it for my TA outlook. This deal, delivery to Vic (3040) is $0 for me.
    Bought 1.
I've been wanting non smart since my last one which is so long ago I can't remember when that was.

  • -8

How are they still selling these in this day and age.

    • +2

      Share-houses need TVs too, mate

    • +2

What? People like cheap TV's! :)

Also, lots of people own a game console or streaming device.

    • +6

Chromecasts etc are often a better experience than built-in smart features, which are often slow to respond to button presses, limited in terms of apps, and outdated. So why bother buying a smart tv?

My Sony TV's shitty YouTube app doesn't even output at 1080. Noticeably worse quality than a chromecast on the same video, on the same TV. Never mind that you can't add apps and it doesn't support Binge.

    • +2

I don't know why you'd buy a smart tv these days. You end up with different TVs with different interfaces. With Chromecast you have the same interface everywhere

    • What, the age of mindless drones who buy the latest tech because they are conned into it?

  • +1

Got one from the last deal. Working well, I have an HTPC connected to it, works wonders. Quick to turn on and off.

  • Where's the pickup option on the checkout page?

  • +1

Any bigger sizes? Or 55inch only?

  • +2
    • A 1-year warranty will be provided instead of the previously offered 3-year warranty due to a promotional update.
  • TV is the only thing that is going down in price while everything else is going up!

    • +4

Grocery items are going down in weight.

      • -1

Haven't noticed any change in how much apples weigh.

  • +1

I have an old LG running a chromecast, and a new 2022 X90J Sony with built in Google TV. Wish I just bought a basic TV and attached a Chromecast. A much better OS IMO. Might get this one for the other bedroom.

    • Even with 2022 X90J Sony with built in Google TV not good enough?

  • +12

Cheaper on eBay $296.20 shipped and can use discounted gift cards https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/235312620120

    • Legend

    • $311.20 now with code GEONLINE20

      • +1

You need to also apply code HERE15 to get the additional $15 off.

  • +1

I got one last time, sound and visuals exceed my expectations- only negative is a dodgy remote control battery cover, though friends who also purchased one report that exact issue.

    • I just use my chromecast as the remote. Through out the remote that came with it

    • I use with firestick remote.. its awesome so only used the tv remote 1x and this didnt have an issue with i5

  • I picked this up from the last sale, connected an Apple TV on it.

Has anyone got any picture settings that they recommend on this? I'm colourblind so I can't really do a decent job on this.

    • You can use your iPhone (11 or 12+) to calibrate the screen.

  • +2

Bought one from the last sale. Connected to PS5 with no problems.

    • Good 4K with PS5, right?

      • +2

I believe the PS5 supports upto 4K@120, but since the HDMI on this TV is only 2.0, it only goes upto 4K@60.

Its pretty good for what it is. My kids play the PS5 more than me (only play GT7), and it looks fine for 4K. I use our other more premium TV to watch movies etc.

        • +1

These TVs will not go to 120hz even with the upgraded HDMI port… It's just not possible with the panel.

  • +1

I bought one of these last big sale and its amazing value for money! plugged in my firestick 4k and love it!

    • Hi, do you know if this TV the back is flat? Or does it have something sticking out? The pictures are very conflicting.

      • Hmm cant remember but ill have a look when i get home

      • itsy prett flat

    • If I use a firestick lite (non 4k) will I notice a great difference on this screen size?

  • Soniq, I thought that brand was replaced by Ffalcon.

    • +1

      No that was Ssoniq.

    • +3

Only at JB Hi Fi. They dumped Soniq as their 'in house' brand a few years back.

  • i think i have this alrdy no…+ wasnt I $199

  • I have one from 2014 when JB used to sell them which is still going strong. Shame I can't use the latest Chromecast due to lack of HDCP support.

    • HDCP Version 1.4/2.2

Isn't this what Chromecast w Google TV needs?

      • The Chromecast wouldn't load. It worked on two other newer TVs so likely my Soniq TV didn't support it.

  • Anyone know if the remote is responsive?

    • It's as responsive as any other IR remote.

  • -2

WA please . We are way over West incase don't know . WA mining pumps a lot of money into the australian coffers by the way.

  • @SONIQ Australia @soniqaustralia or anyone else got one last time, could you please let me know the measurement of the distance between the legs? ie. what’s the minimum size cabinet required with the tv hanging over the edge of the cabinet.

    Hope I explained clearly 😅

  • +1

It's good to see that something in the world is deflating. $300 is really good for a large 4k. I assume it is a HDR10 screen; 10 bit is mentioned in the specs. I once downloaded a Dolby Vision film, and while the detail (luma) was fine, the colours were really trippy on my basic HDR10 TV. It would be great is there was just one standard that every manufacturer supported.

Take image formats: Apple pushes Heic, Google Avif or Webp, and there is the superior JpegXL format but no corporations are really backing it yet (Photoshop can open it via Camera Raw but cannot save in that format).

    • A display can be (dithered) 10 bit without being HDR. I don't think it is HDR as it doesn't mention it anywhere, but someone who owns one can confirm.

  • I'm after something similar but a bit smaller, say 40". Any ideas, please?

  • +1

    $299 for a 55" 4k TV is nuts.
I remember seeing the first Pioneer 42" Plasma (720p) for $24,999 @ JB Hi Fi.

  • If my 47" Soniq TV that i bought from about 10 years ago wasn't still running perfectly, i'd seriously contemplate getting this.

  • Anybody know if the Headphone line out is fixed volume or can be controlled with TV remote?

  • Would this be a big upgrade for my 2011 LG 42" 42LW6500

    • Using math it's 13 inches bigger upgrade.

  • Really can't decide on this one. I'm in the market for a new TV. Really just watch a few movies a week (1080p content streamed from Apple TV 4k), the odd game on Switch. So tossing up between this + a soundbar or just go for the equivalent size from Hisense (no soundbar).

    What do?

    • Go with the soundbar option. Audio is a very important aspect of movie immersion.

      • Even over the potentially better panel that the Hisense would have?

        • Well it is subjective to an extent but as long as the Soniq is still high resolution and picture quality is above average, then you would gain more movie watching utility by spending your money on a decent soundbar. But go with what you think you'll enjoy more.

  • +2

Only one year warranty instead of usual 3 year warranty. What are they afraid of? Are they leaving the Australian market?

    • They know the quality of their build.
