They can keep waiting, my last iPhone was an iPhone 4.
My first and the last new iphone was 4s, ever since I've been buying used ones or older models.
Iphones hold up so well I can't justify buing a brand new/the newest model.
Nah they will cut prices on the base model next year. They have precedent with the XR and the demands of ever increasing sales from shareholders are too great.
Don’t expect a price cut on pro models though, they target people who aren’t making a decision over a hundred bucks either way.
Good healthy competition, force the price down a bit and let the games begin..

It's kind of a funny situation, their "competitors" are actually their business partners, so there no real incentive for them to aggressively price beat, in fact they should only sell at full RRP.

Cant beat iPhone n Apple products in general started my repair business fixing Apple Products and business is booming that said ill never actually buy anything Apple after seeing their business practices how they get away with pairing parts, not selling anything not even one part to 3rd party repair shops, vetoing common parts from texas instruments so they cant sell a 3c part needed for repairs to anyone outside of Apple. And yes im way over qualified but between Apple and rtx 4090s i got more work than i could want.
