Half way building this, so much fun

  • +3

I myself just purchased it, hoping to make it even more accurate using some 3rd-party Marlboro stickers and also wider rear tyres/wheels (which I think is the worst aspect about this set)

If you no longer go for a gap that exists, you're no longer a racing driver - ASenna

    • +5

That would have been so much better quote to use. I haven't even heard the "No matter what your dream is, you have to dedicate yourself entirely to it." before and haven't found any actual source for it either. And the rear wheels are an embarrassment. Why go through all the trouble to create a new set, new parts for the wheels and all of that just to get it all so wrong in the end. Did anyone at Lego even have a look at this set and a picture of the real car side by side?

      • True that

      • +5

That would have been so much better quote to use.

No it wouldn't, that was him trying to justify crashing Prost out of the race at Suzuka.

A better quote would be: "Racing, competing, is in my blood. It's part of me, it's part of my life; I've been doing it all my life. And it stands up before anything else."

        • +1

That's a good one. Here's what I would have gone with (though in fairness there's not shortage of inspirational quotes by Senna):

"On a given day, a given circumstance, you think you have a limit. And you then go for this limit and you touch this limit, and you think, 'Okay, this is the limit'. And so you touch this limit, something happens and you suddenly can go a little bit further. With your mind power, your determination, your instinct, and the experience as well, you can fly very high."

          • @nicepantsdude: I would have gone with

Gentlemen, a short view back to the past. Thirty years ago, Niki Lauda told us ‘take a monkey, place him into the cockpit and he is able to drive the car.’ Thirty years later, Sebastian told us ‘I had to start my car like a computer, it’s very complicated.’ And Nico Rosberg said that during the race – I don’t remember what race - he pressed the wrong button on the wheel. Question for you both: is Formula One driving today too complicated with twenty and more buttons on the wheel, are you too much under effort, under pressure? What are your wishes for the future concerning the technical programme during the race? Less buttons, more? Or less and more communication with your engineers?

      • +2

100% agree on the rear wheels, how did they not make them wider???

I am hoping someone knows if there are wider tyres we could use to fix it? It just looks plain wrong once completed.

        • There is a youtube video by Racingbrick that shows how incredible the car would look with 50% wider rear tyres.

          • @nicepantsdude: any idea where to get them from?

            • @Suspect420: Racingbrick said they were 3d-printed by a friend of his but it was only for demonstration purposes. I'd be surprised if someone doesn't start selling these in the near future, if they haven't already.

        • Same issue with the 1:8 Mercedes F1 car and the McLaren from a few years ago. They keep on skimping on the wheels which really affects the look of F1 cars.

What happens when you go for a gap that you thought existed?

Asking on behalf of ol' mate Lance Stroll and his bum rush into Danny Ric yesterday

      • +4

        F&ck that was embarrassing!

        • +1

Lol yeah and his radio back to the team the idiot just slammed the brakes on me!

    • … And if you go for a gap, that no longer exists, you are Pastor Maldonado

  • I really enjoyed this set!

  • +3

I didn't even know this was a thing, instant buy. Shame they didn't include a blue Nacional cap to go with it.

  • I bought this set on a whim from Big W when it was released (same price). One of my favourite sets. Amazing at this price.

  • If anyone hasn’t seen the documentary by Asif Kapida I would heavily recommend

  • +4

Those back tyres are shocking. It’s a no from me

    • All 4 tyres are the same size not sure why the pic is different

      • +2

The back tyres should be a lot wider like the real car

        • Oh ok

  • +4

Perhaps the single most iconic image you associate with Senna is his yellow helmet with two stripes — one green, one blue. And that’s the one thing the couldn’t get right in this set. How this could pass the concept/design/production stages with the approval of the Ayrton Senna estate is mind-boggling. What a disappointment.

Do yourself a favor and search LEGO 10330 on AliExpress

    • My gosh ahhahah

    • +2

      Thanks bought 6

    • Yeahhh… HR called..

    • I didn't know AliExpress sold nosecones for the Caterham CT05.

McLaren should really go back to this Livery, that Orange is FUGLY. Can you imagine Ferrari adopting a new colour scheme

    • most of the team liveries look bland this year, it's mostly carbon fibre for weight loss

      • +1

most of the team liveries look bland this year,

#Stake F1 Team Kick Sauber has entered the chat
lime green is a bold choice :)

      • -1

what does carbon fibre have to do with the colour scheme , sure it may alter the shape of the shell and the chassis . All they have to do is go into photoshop and use the colour picker and find which red to use and find some paint. You wouldnt geck Collingwood at the start of the season say ..hmm you know what those black and white strips, I think we will go with flouro pink Inter Miami Style. Maybe the FIA could introduce "Retro Round"

        • +2

I believe the poster is referring to the use of unpainted bodywork to reduce weight.

There is 6kg of paint in a F1 car which cost ~0.3sec a lap, according to some post on Twitter. There is a minimum weight for a F1 car which until recently only some teams were able to archive. A team may determine that being overweight may have a net positive on the lap times/reliability etc.

Paint adds nothing. Go fast stripes, white walls, and K&N filter stickers still add at least 10Kw!

Awesome set, but you need to get

    The accurate sponsor decals
    https://www.etsy.com/au/listing/1697789183/lego-icons-senna-…

Correct tyres - reprinted and the stencil to colour the goodyear to the tyre walls
    https://www.etsy.com/au/listing/1697459076/lego-icons-senna-…

    OR
Just both of the above, combined

Also for a real display, Gecko bricks for wallmount

    • +1

Why are the stickers $9.50, tyres $50, and combined $90?

      • +3

        Dummy tax.

  • +4

People who buy this model should look for the youtuber "jayemm on cars" for his interviews with the guys who actually designed and made the real thing. It's quite revealing…

    • Him and Savagegeese are my auto YT must watch

      • I've watched a few of his but I would also add Harry's Garage and Number 27. I know the roads they use and used to live there 20 years ago.

  • +3

I have no idea how Lego can produce so many models each year with so many new parts and they can't even get the rear wheels right.

I really wanted to get this but I'm not about to spend $80 only to spend even more making it right.

Once someone points out the rear wheels you can't un-see this.

  • is there a mod to fix the painted piece (where the white looks pink)

  • Was $71.20 not long ago at Target with 20% off lego

    • +6

Thanks, I'll go back in time.

      • -2

You'll be an expert at that, seeing as you are a Liverpool fan.

  • Gobbledok seal of approval

  • +3

If you don't go for a bargain that exists, you are no longer an ozbargainer.

I would buy Colin McRae's Subaru with "When in doubt, flat out".
