  • I was hoping that this was https://www.harveynorman.com.au/ninja-foodi-max-xxxl-smart-d…

Probably only difference is the 'smart cook system' and different controls I guess. Don't really know if the 'smart cook system' actually adds any real value.

    • +3

I have the smart cook version and I've yet to use it. Can't really see me using it much tbh.

    • +1

I was tempted by the smart probe but I just got a Thermopro TP20 for $45, which I can use not just for the airfryer but for the oven, bbq, and stove etc etc.
I know it won't automatically stop the airfryer cooking like the attached one does but it was a good option for me.

      • +2

There is a similar Ikea temp probe. Obviously less fancy, it just been when the probe gets to the set temp, but it is still very hand and well work the <$20.

        • Oh nice great little option there for $12

    • It has a temp probe for roasts similar to the smart ovens with probes. So it adjusts the temp to the roast etc

  • Does this one have a cover for the heating element?

    • +3

Is there any model with a cover ever?

    • Get on amazon and order some silicon trays

      • Get the airfryer on Amazon or do they actually make a cover for the element
        ?

        • They have these silicon trays with handles so you don't have to touch the cast iron/ metal after cooking,

  • +8

These things are almost bigger than the oven in your kitchen. Look hideous on a bench top. We must be reaching a point of diminishing returns.

    • good tip!! picture didn't indicate how big it actually is

    • +1

I give it 5-10 years before Air fryer function becomes included in run of the mill built in ovens.

    • It's 3300 x 4150 x 3800, massively smaller than a typical oven. Also still much cheaper to run, easier to clean, etc. No comparison.

I have used this air-fryer for about 3 years and found it to be excellent. The versatility of the 2 drawers is great. Controls are easy to use. Frying 'drawers' are in good condition after 3 years of frequent use, approximately 5 times a week. No issues with the electrics - it works as well as it did on day 1. Definitely recommended based on my personal experience.

edit: I have the fully push button model without the centre dial.

      Same experience here.

    • Sweet thanks for the review

at what point do airfryers become fan forced ovens?

    • +1

My exact point a few comments above. It’s getting ridiculous.

  • Does it have the Teflon coating? Does anyone know if it chips off? Thanks

    • +3

      Teflon coated, yes
Chips off, not yet (don't take any extra care but am careful not to use sharp objects in it).

I've had the smaller version (AF300) of this for 3+ years and it's the best airfryer I've had (previously had Philips). Easy to clean, easy to set, fits plenty, can do two things at once, etc. Only negative is it's size/looks but if you can get past that it's extremely versitile/functional.

I've always said if I was to move into a Cabin home all I would need is this airfryer, a kettle/hot water dispenser and an Nespresso Creatista coffee machine and you're pretty much set.

      • Do you stick the baskets in the dishwasher?

        • Sometimes but not always - had it a couple years and it's still all in place.

    • +1

This tip is standard for all air fryer baskets. Do not spray oil on food while it is in the basket, spray on food outside of the basket. Oil spray will tarnish the coating(flaky white appearance) and reduces the life of the non stick coating.

  • This or the 25L Kmart one for $139

  • Guessing they are making space for the new stack model

  • How does this brand stack against Instant Pot Vortex Plus? Anyone has experience with both they can compare?

  • -1

I somehow saw a bundle of boxers when scrolling past this

  • Tempted to switch to this from a Phillips HD9270. Anyone want to try talk me out of it?

Being able to cook simultaneously would help not having to run the oven as well. Standard practice at the moment is either that, or cook one thing then try keep it warm for 15 minutes while the chippies/veggies cook.

  • Great timing. 4yr old Philips XXL started playing up, turning on but not heating, then heating but not to the right temp. I paid $70 for a new element, to find out its the actual board that's playing up and none were on sale. So this was perfect and also I think two draws would work.

Also, agree these look ugly on a benchtop, butlers pantry's for the win :p

  • Thx OP, ordered one. I didn't realise but it is possible to use commbank reward points at Myer, which is great as I often forget about them.

  • now thats an air fryer, 4 bags of oven chips at once

  • Ok, I own one of these and I would strongly advise avoiding them.

Why? Well when you use one tray at a time they are perfect, but when you try cooking with both it is sooooo slow, to the point of being useless. Ours now lives in the garage, replaced with a Phillips XXL.

Good idea on paper, poorly executed.

    • Would it handle a chicken in one tray and vegetables or chips in the other fine?

      • +1

Oh it works, but just double the cooking time. I suspect there's just one 'heat' element & two fans, so using 2 trays takes ages

        • Good to know thanks

          • @yoyobananas: I have tried numerous brands via Ozb recommendations and have had this air fryer for last 18 months. My experience has been different, Running both compared to one has very minor difference, and in normal mode you can peak both at 210 degrees. Each compartment has its own element.

You can also run one on 'max' at 240 degrees and other at peak 210 it works great. So far, ive loved this air fryer.

  • Amazon have price matched to $229. Good for gift card users.

  • +2

I also have this unit and I'd like to weigh in for those considering. When using both trays, I do notice some difference with heating quality VS single tray in use. Single tray use has better heating flow if you're after short term gains, like 5-10 mins reheating to crisp. Also, you cannot use Max mode for both at the same time. If using both trays, it's air fry mode for one and Max in another. However…

It is very convenient to use even one tray on Max crisp because it is very fast and then when you're lazy to clean it, you can use the other tray on Max on another day whilst the first is still getting cleaned.

For use case of making small meals like for better lunches or reheating food, it is way better than microwave although my fav way is to use microwave to cut down the bulk of cooking time and to finish off in air fryer with similar results.

For use case of family feeding big meals, just be mindful you need to experiment food combinations and allow for more time to truly do the set and forget.

"Once you've figured out the right combo for your dietary needs, it's only a matter of time until it becomes a routine."

  • Thank OP

  • Hey peeps, how long have your air fryers lasted? Looking to get the smaller ninja max from JB with extended warranty for extra $27 - 3 years warranty in total. From what I read they last around 4 years max?

    • +1

My phillinps XXL been In use most days since September 2019, has to have the outer basket replaced (free from Phillips) when it cracked after a few months use, but still works fine.

Though the non stick coating has seen better days.

      • that's a decent run! got the extended warranty for peace of mind
