Doing a search on Amazon for one of these and was surprised by how cheap this is if you have a Prime account. Only $8 including postage. Unsure of the quality, but most similar ones were selling for $20-40. Might give it a try.

    W T F…

    • +4

That was my initial reaction also. Is this a joke?

      • +3

Yall sleeping on this or you dont have sunshine

    • +9

Why is it so incomprehensible? It's just a fold out, rigid sunshade with a handle.

      • +17

From the thumbnail, I thought it was for the outside of your car

        • +3

you can alway drill a whole in the windscreen to fit the handle.

      • +7

because it says it's an umbrella and the thumbnail shows it being used like an umbrella, outside the car?

  • +2

Bro in the 1 star review section says he doesn't want to risk damaging his $80k Volvo by using it…

    • +15

      Volvo drivers…

      • +1

next door had a personalised number plate for his volvo. apparently the dealer was not impressed: BVD

    • +2

A true ozber stands outside holding an umbrella up to protect the car

      • +1

Gotta protect ya high yield investments, cuz!

  • Not gonna lie im kind of vibing with this… My only concern would be how it would fit on my i30 which is most likely considered 'small' looking at their sizing.

    • +7

I had this and it’s worse than rubbish. In our i30 is absolutely scratched up the dash and the top of the infotainment unit the one time I tried it. Straight in the bin because didn’t feel like sabotaging friends or families by “gifting” it to them

      • Phew thanks for the heads up! I decided not to order one but would of definitely cancelled my order after reading this if I did haha.

  • Thanks for posting - I was searching for one of these last month.

Checking the dimensions - dont think it'll be a good fit for my car so will pass.

From the comments, it looks like you get what you pay for?

  • +24

LOL at first I thought it was massive and attached from the outside to the corner of the car.

    • +5

So did I, who thought that graphic was a good idea?

    • +1

Same! I was already thinking about how I could repurpose it to use as a sort of patio umbrella on my balcony by attaching it to the window, alas :(

    • +4

me too. I was thinking that's definitely going to blow off when I'm going down the freeway.

      • +1

If you had a tailwind you could use it as a sail, allowing you to turn off the engine and save fuel.

    • +1

Same. Was thinking 'how impractical, my car doesn't even have hands to hold it'

    • Wait, what? How big is it?

  • +3

seems good in theory but one review said the arms are flimsy, so you have the same problem cheap umbrellas have

id rather stick to the folding type that is a little more flexible with rear vision fitting

    • +5

except this umbrella never encounters the wind and the rain as it sits inside your car

    • so you have the same problem cheap umbrellas have

How do yo figure that? The biggest problem umbrellas have is wind, as this is unaffected by wind since it is inside your car.

      • +1

They have mechanical linkages paired with bendy arms, even closing it could be a risk

    • +1

They need to be flimsy to maneuver round things like your steering wheel and rear view mirror. If it was rigid it would damage your car.

  • Yeah good idea in theory, but something thats copping the sun for 6+ hours a day gets floppy and flimsy pretty quick no matter how good the quality is the silver lining can only take so much from UV rays. I just buy one from SCA every couple years and replace.

    • Or just buy this for cheaper every couple years and replace?

      • +2

You can get the accordion style sunshades for like $2 if you keep your eyes out

  • These are not good - really difficult to set up. You just wanna flick one up and get out of the car so not very practical

  • +5

So how does this stay attached while driving?

Is it cheaper in the long run rather than using your wipers?

    • +2

This is a sun shade that you use from inside the car to protect your car interior from the sun when the car is parked. It is not an umbrella for the rain.

      • +6

I think I just saw a car umbrella fly over your head

    • Certainly - keep the rain and sun off your windscreen!

    • +2

This allows you to use the sunroof in the rain. However, you have to hold it while you drive, which could be dangerous, since it will flap about at speed.

  • +2

You can just buy the "Bunnings Car Sunshade" for $3, they gave me mine for free. Sure, it has a massive Bunnings logo, but it folds up small and is flexible so it can be stored pretty much anywhere. No risk of damaging interior, more likely to fit any car, no needless umbrella mechanism to break.

  • Can you use this as an umbrella on rainy days?

  • +4

This is bloody annoying ass shite to deploy. It gets caught with everything everytime. If you got stuff hanging off the vents, fuggedaboutit!

Stick to the ol' reliable folding sunshade.

  • +1

These are not as good as they seem - I have had one for about 4 months from Taobao (likely where these Amazon resellers get them anyway) and one of the "arms" have already stuck itself through the material.

It's also somewhat fiddly to set it up and take it down compared to your traditional sunshade where you just fold/twist and slot into the back of the driver/passenger seat pocket

  • -1

Wont it blow away when you drive?

    • +2

@jv, you will be blown away by the price before it blows away.

  • good for the beach? not the car.

  • +2

Is it still considered unlucky to open an umbrella inside?

    • -1

Depends what you are trying to open it up inside..Owgasm!

    • -1

nothing unlucky, it just released a ghost in your car…………

  • bought one and cancelled 5 mins after watching some youtube videos. Will stick to the folding ones for now :)

  • I use one of these. At first it was a little weird but now I can't live without it. Pretty much use it everyday. I put it under the seat when not in use. Its great. Just don't be too rough with it as the tips may scratch and its a bit flimsy.

    • Yeah I have one too (different brand though) and love it. So much easier to deploy and pack away than other shade designs, so I actually use it even when stopped for a short time. It is quite effective too.

That said I tried a few and returned all but one. It ("Lamicall" brand) is relatively well made, but annoyingly still didn't match the size description, so is a touch too small for my windscreen.

I won't link to the one I bought, as I see now it is double the price ($40 instead of $20) and has a larger size for even more, which is the probably the size mine was meant to be :P

  • +1

These things always refresh my understanding to landfill.

  • I can't vouch for this brand, I personally owns 1 kind of shade umbrella for my car, I'd admit it's the best purchase ever made.
fold shade is bloody hard to fold and store, suck cup never works well, and you have to stretch and twist back to get to the other end to put on.
umbrella is so easy. open and leave, 1 click and strap and put into glove box.

  • I was more interested if it block hail and rainstorm, guess not.

  • Just have your wife hold it whilst you're driving.

  • It's a good thing the sun doesn't move

  • +1

The price is changing like share market
    7.99
    8.99
    9.99
    12.00
    13.99

  • Have one and my car feels hotter with this put up….

  • If you have a dashcam, might not be a good idea to use sunshades at all. I used to have one (not this umbrella style) and I suspect the heat was reflected to the non-camera side of the dashcam and it melted/broke.

  • I got something similar from temu. I love it because it's fast to put up and pack away. And it fits into my side door compartment.
