Not that computer savy. I have updated the Facebook Messenger app in my phone now it is requesting a PIN number .
I am unable to read any messages on my phone unless I create a PIN number Why has this app changed?

Because security is important. You must have a device that doesn't use FaceID or some other form of unlocking, and needs a pin.
More apps are doing it. Even AusPost has an option.
