  • I know it'd be slow, but I wonder how this would go for doing carpets in a 3br house instead of hiring a machine

    • +13

took me 2 hrs to clean a 2.5m x 1.8m rug. Much easier to just hire a machine if you're doing carpets.

      • +2

would be as tedious as cleaning toilet with a toothbrush, not your own toothbrush of course.

    • +2

I really wouldn't recommend this for regular carpet deep cleaning of a whole house. It's in the name (spot clean).

The odd rug/matress/couch deep clean is the most I'd say this could be practical for.

    • I have tried it in the past and wouldn't recommend. Apart from the time consuming and intensive task, it will be patchy. You will end up hiring it from Bunnings anyway

    • +1

The upright Bissells are the right machine, and really can do every bit as good a job as the hire machines in my experience (I have used them all, and we now own a Bissell upright - but I'm sure there are other brands that do just as well).

As others have mentioned, this one is for spot cleaning or where you need a little bit more portability (in a car for example).

    • Got the Powerclean 2889E carpet cleaner from UK yesterday, shipped already (surprised), 800w. I think I don't need another of this?

      • Who doesn't need at least two carpet cleaners!? Go on.. hit the 'buy' button, you know you want to!

    • -3

Godfrey's is going into administration so I would not purchase any goods from them as you will have no way to get a remedy when they stop trading in June.

      • +2

Use this to price match at JB or GG

      • +1

Bissell has confirmed they will honour all warranty claims directly in this case.

  • Does anyone know if this comes with solution or do you have to buy separately?

    • +1

I don't have this one, but the other Bissell model I bought had a small bottle included

    • +3

I'd recommend doing some googling and formulating your own solution. You pay a big premium for the off the shelf convenience.

    • +4

I highly recommend you under dose the solution heavily. It still does an excellent job with a small amount of solution. Hell, it even does well with straight hot water.

I use a small splash into the tank and my solution lasts a long time. It still brings up a huge amount of dirt. I honestly think that the recommended rates are to make you buy more solution so they can earn more.

      • -1

Would vinegar work as a substitute?

        • +1

I wont be putting vinegar anywhere near my Bissell.

        • I just use laundry soap. The same stuff you put in your washing machine, at the same concentration. It doesn't tend to foam up, and it's designed to lift dirt from fabrics. Have done with both Vax and Bissell carpet cleaners for a couple years with no issues. If you're using laundry powder just make sure you dissolve it fully in the water before filling/running the machine.

      • What do you think, like a half dose or even less?

        • +3

          Even less

I have the proheat 2x revolution pet and I use a splash per tank…maybe 30mL? 50mL if generous? I don't measure it anymore because it's literally just a splash. It's definitely nowhere near the recommended rate and I don't think it's even 1/4 of the recommended rate: the water level barely goes up in the tank. I've read about people saying that while increased solution may increase the extraction of dirt, it also would increase the rate at which dirt then sticks back to whatever you are cleaning due to residual solution left behind.

If there is a stain then I'll spray a bunch of the liquid on for ~5-10mins and then suck it up. If that won't remove the stain then I use a spray on pre treat with enzymes or whatever.

I have used straight hot water and it would still suck up grey looking water.

Seriously, formula lasts a long time with me and I do half a 2 storey 4 bedroom house every few months.

When my current formula finishes, I'll probably use the 5L Peerless JAL formula from Bunnings and that will probably last me at least 5yrs

      • +1

Can these machines handle hot water, or just warm?

  • Does anyone know how this compares to the VAX Platinum Spot Wash Spot Cleaner VACSC21E?

    • Compare the specifications from the manufacturer.

      https://www.vax.com.au/products/carpet-cleaners/vax-platinum…
      https://bissell.com.au/products/spotclean-turbo

I'd say the main differences are the number of attachments, motor power, and liquid capacity.

At the end of the day they probably work near identically for spot cleaning - but this one (bissell turbo) can do a larger area at a time with a higher suction power.

    • +1

Don't have either of them, but based off the specs from the VAX site, this probably has a stronger suction since it's 750w vs 450w.

Also has a 2.8L / 2.2L clean water/dirty water tank vs 1.5L/1.0L on the vax.

The Vax looks comparable to the bissel spotclean (non-turbo model), but has stronger suction (vs 330w) and slighly larger tanks (1.1L / 1.1L clean/dirty)

  • Will Godfreys deliver ?

    • Yes. Mine was $19 for Syd metro.

  • +2

I have this one. Its great for cleaning the mattress and for baby toys, the pram and car seats, also use it on the dinning chairs

Price matched at JB + gift cards from MQ to lower it to $220, thanks OP!

    • Thanks for the reminder!
I got it price matched as well via JB Website chat. Also stacked it with Giftcard purchased from NIB Rewards for 4% off (Total: $218.30 Click & Collect)
If anyone else is with NIB health insurance, you can check the app to fill out a survey for $20 credit which can be used to purchase the gift card

    • Thanks. I also got price matched at JB. Saved delivery cost.

  • +4

My apple watch let me know that the noise levels can cause permanent hearing damage. So I wear plugs when I use this. Great device otherwise.

    • Thanks for update.

    • It is indeed very loud. The high pitch noise reminds me of the sound of the airplane engines when you’re walking along the tarmac. It’s not painful, but definitely not safe to use for an extended duration which can sometimes be the case if you have a big clean up job and more so since the hose is short so the machine unit is right next to you.

  • +2

I've had one of the smaller units and it was ok but didn't last many years (and light use). Recently got a clear head to use with my wet&dry vacuum and even though you have to manually spray stuff on, scrub (if needed), then vacuum it up, it's better and a lot cheaper (if you have a wet&dry vac already).

This type of thing (this was just the first on a search)
    https://www.amazon.com.au/Bainiao-Upholstery-Mattress-Cleani…

    • I tried this approach with a cheap wet/dry 12L vacumn from bunnings and could not for the life of me get it to not spit water out the exhaust despite all online instructionals, video tutorials, manuals, etc.

      • I'm using a fairly big Ozito and it works fine. Did you have the filter off inside the vac?

        • +1

I had the wet filter on as per the instructions. It seems the velocity of the water would splash it onto the filter and get sucked through no matter what I did. I think 12L is just too small of a bin - the intake was only 5CM off the bottom.

I found out in the worst way as well. Cleaning the bottom of a mid load dishwasher resulted in dirty washing liquid sprayed across the entire kitchen.

    • Which wet&dry vac are you using?

      • +1

Ozito (40 litre I think it is).

  • +2

I got this years ago from TGG commercial for $263
Its a great spotclean machine and strong suction power
Extremely useful to clean the carpet when the baby vomit on the floor / wee on the mattress

  • Any OzB recommendations on the liquid you put in these things? I find it pretty expensive, is there an off-brand or perhaps a home made solution that works just as well?

    • I use this https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/bissell-spotclean-oxy-spot-an…
only need half a cup for each full tank of clean water
so running cost isn't too much

As I use it for spot clean only, even one full tank of clean water can use several times

      • That's what I use, but recently did the whole carpet in a very small bedroom and found I had to fill the entire tank 3 times just for the one room. Maybe I'm overusing the spray though.

        • +1

Use a fraction of the recommended dosage. A splash per tank is more than enough

    • +1

Disclaimer: I am not a Vacuum Chemist, and I'm not responsible if this breaks your machine.

I just use laundry soap.

      • Sounds good to me, I can't imagine it would be bad for the machine unless it clogs it up over time.

      • Laundry liquid would be way too concentrated compared to the Bissell formula. You should only be using a tiny amount of that.

I used to use a home made concoction that is somewhere on Ozbargain. Most of the concoction is water and there is only a tiny amoint of laundry liquid. And even that cleans well with just a splash.

        • That's what I mean by "at the same concentration". The ratio of laundry liquid to water should be the same as in the washing machine, where a cap full of detergent goes into like 45L of water. It may also give a ratio for soaking or hand washing on the bottle.

  • Does anyone use this on a fabric couch? We’ve got a fairly nice couch with wool fabric. It definitely needs a clean (has for a long time tbh…) but I’ve never known what to do it with.

The cushion covers say do not machine wash, use upholstery cleaner but I’m not sure what that even means lmao.

    • I used it on a nice couch with suede fabric. It was a bit scary but the result was actually good.

    • It can definitely be used but if you're nervous just do a light spray if the solution and vacuum it up to start with

    • I use my Bissell on fabric couches all the time. It works well.

If you are worried then use way way less detergent or just use straight hot water in the machine…but I can't comment on the wool fabric though. If it's actually wool then it may not like hot water? idk

    • We scored a duck down filled fabric upholstery lounge for cheap on fb marketplace years ago and we have used this vacuum to clean it no problems. Food spills, baby urine, vomit, pet smells etc all came out fine when using with upholstery cleaning solution spray. Need to clean right away for best results. Hot water definitely helps. Refer to product reviews on YouTube for cleaning instructions. Deeper stains may require multiple passes.

We use the hair blower to quickly dry the fabric and duck feather filling so that it won’t smell if left wet too long.

Boo $20 delivery. All suburbs in Sydney OOS except Campbelltown. Wonder if I can price match somewhere else.
Edit: jb agreed to price match

    • Kmart one for cleaning literally a single spot less than an A4 peice of paper. This one for anything larger.

  • Thanks OP! Been looking at getting one of these for ages.
Price matched with JB for cheaper delivery in Melbourne.

    • Agree - thanks OP!

  • This works very well. I recently removed a fridge that had stood on the same spot for well over 10 years. The floor underneath was super dirty and this absolutely nailed the clean up, which took less than 15 minutes.

    Recommended.

    • +2

      Your floor is carpet?

      • That floor is stone tiles.

  • I have a sofa to clean and was looking to buy this
    https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/bissell-spotclean-hydrosteam-… ( $351 at GGC )

Has anyone used this compared to the one on sale ?

    thanks

HydrooSteam version has larger motor and hot steaming functions. I'm honestly not sure of its effectiveness. Maybe better for oils that lift easier with heat?

  • I borrowed this model from a friend to clean my mattress and car seats etc. I was really happy with it (esp for someone with a dustmite allergy). Ordered it for myself now.

    Thanks OP

  • +1

I like how they still promote servicing at checkout.

  • Price match at JB and used leftover ultimate home GC.

  • Thanks OP. price matched and bought one from JB

  • Great little machine for spot-cleaning carpet or upholstery, especially if you have puppies

Definitley NOT for cleaning a whole room, it would take forever

Here is a link to JB-Hi Fi Price match… it will only work once.. please respond to this comment once used.

    • Hi has the link been used?

i found this one aswell, which ends up $3 cheaper

    https://www.godfreys.com.au/hoover-onepwr-cleanslate-portabl…

but you also get a handvac worth $99 via redemption

  • We have this unit.

    Pros:
    - Much better suction than any of those battery operated versions, including Bissell's own Stain Eraser Pet. Does a great job on carpet for vomit, blood, wee and other exciting child related spills, as long as you get to them reasonably quickly.
    - Doesn't need much detergent. Yes, the Bissell stuff is expensive per bottle, but they last for ages.

    Cons:
    - after a while, the head attachments have become harder to fasten. Not sure if it's the O rings or whether there's some degradation of the plastic nub that clicks into the hole in the head attachment.
    - when you rinse the dirty tank (after each use), you need to be super diligent to reach every nook and cranny. There are little corners under where the dirty warty channel enters that are a PITA to clean if you miss it and waste builds up.
    - even rinsing after every use, the hose definitely gets dirty over time. Since you only use it to suck up dirty water and not to dispense, I guess it's ok. Doesn't seem to smell.

Question: We usually squirt the liquid on, scrub it in with the brushes without letting the vacuum suck it up, turn off the vac and and let the detergent sit for a few minutes. Then we turn the vac back on to extract. Is this the best technique?

  • Cheers. Splurged and got the Hydrosteam at JB. I watched a bunch of Youtube reviews but all of them were for the American version which only comes with the 12cm head, not the 8cm head or the self cleaning tool. I imagine suction using the 8cm is stronger than the 12cm one. I also like the option for wheels which are in stock next month according to the Bissell website.

  • Anyone have jb HiFi price matched link?

  • just go to the jb hi fi website, select live chat and say you want a price match on a product. they will then send you a link to purchase the item for the discounted price

    • I did, they said they can't price match low quantity items

Here you go, mine from earlier i didnt use. Cart expires in 20 minutes good luck and grab it before anyone else does.

        • I would happily use your link tonight if it's still available

        • Not available. I am still looking

  • I bought the non-turbo version a couple weeks back for similar price. How annoying.

  • Thanks purchased through JB. Had one JB refuse, didn't stock it either. Went to another store and they price matched with no hassle.
