Durable water-repellent coating for light rain. *A water-repellent coating is applied to the surface of the fabric for a longer-lasting water-repellent effect.THE FINISH IS NOT PERMANENT.

    This is an interesting description

      Marketing: Durable water-repellent coating

Legal: THE FINISH IS NOT PERMANENT.

I mean props to them for being honest, DWR is a surface coating and plenty of other brands make out like brand new garments will continue to bead water forever.

Even the most expensive brand name down jackets are not meant to be used as rain jackets. The Uniqlo ones I've seen have been very decent jackets for the price, especially when on sale.

    NPC fashion goes brrrr

    • +3

      Nah, they're pretty warm jackets.

      What?

    • +8

You mean quality garments with no loud and gaudy branding? I guess yeah and thatโ€™s fine with me

Get your standard issue Melbourne uniform.

    • Nah. Too colourful!

      • Agreed. As a Melburnian I only wear clothes made from vantablack.

Does this come with a pocket knife for "self defence" ?

Too soon for ya humorous comment good sir

  • Holy smokes they look horrible.

  • "No down pack for Ultra Light Weight"
    What does this mean??

    • looks like they forgot to pack down into these. just feathers and crap

  • Looks like it comes from cheap as chips.

  • how do you guys wash this material?

    • Spot clean, but if it gets soaked and clumps, you need to hand wash with fit for purpose detergents and dry with a tumble dryer and tennis ball.

      • im picturing the cheap pillows you get that ball up after a while

    • +1

I put in the washing machine on a gentle cycle with some detergent. Then tumble dry on synthetic with wool balls or laundry balls to loosen the down.

I got Aldi's $49.99 down jacket for $25 at the end of last winter, for $25 i wasnt too fussed if it got damaged; just chucked it in the washing machine on a delicate cycle then air dried (dont have a dryer) and it was all good. Not sure if it would be the same for this one though

      Front loader, and tumble dryer

Ngl I turned my nose up at puffer down jackets for a long time, but I caved and got one from Macpac on sale 2 years ago and I LIVE in that thing during Winter and autumn, it's the lightest but warmest jacket ever, saves you from having to wear 100 layers to keep comfortably warm. I see the hype now. Whilst they may not be everyone's cup of tea visually, i'm 100% converted. Also highly recommend the heat tech range from uniqlo, so thin and so warm!

I don't really need one of these, but mine doesn't have a hood so it's tempting.

      Melbourne user confirmed

    • Indeed, it is ugly. Ugly, and very warm.

    • I was given a lee cooper jacket, think I only used it once last year (syd)

There is maybe 100-200g difference compared to my "ultralight" jacket

But neither would compare to my warmest which is pretty much designed to be worn standing around in snow/freezing conditions. I tried taking it ski/boarding once and its way too warm for that not to mention the weight too

so yea, further up the coast you go, the less this stuff is needed. They still have beach weather around coffs harbour

  • Does anyone own one and can confirm the number of pockets it has (just the two on the outside or whether it has more pockets on the inside) and whether they are zipped pockets? From pictures it seems the two outside pockets have zips?

  • Purple is the new black?

  • Great - just grab the birk sandals and you can look like every 15 year old girl in Aus with a puffer and sandals ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

  • Run!….it's Mr.Stay puft!!

  • I struggle with the overall aesthetic of the uniqlo ultralight puffer but can't argue with its functionality or packability. I reckon I'd get the hoodless version, find a nice shell jacket that you like the look of and pair them together.

  • Weird XL is the largest, but for fatties like me, I need maybe a size or two bigger.

  • It says for women, so I'm not sure if the size is different for women vs men. Eg L for woman may be small for man?

  • Has this replaced Macpac as the official ozbargain winter uniform?

The down used in these jackets are RDS (Responsible Down Standard) certified. Anyone who has done a little bit of googling would know how little this means and the tremendous amount of suffering the animals that have experienced having their feathers plucked out. There are better alternatives

    • I don't think any Uniqlo products are even RDS. At this price you wouldnt expect it.

    • RDS calls for feathers to be removed during slaughter and specifically prohibits live plucking.

Not that I'd ever buy down of course, but RDS is meant to prohibit the "abhorrent practices".

    • If you've done the googling, share. If there are better alternatives, name them.
